In addition to providing information about license consumption in SAP for Me (“How many of the purchased licenses have been consumed”), you can now also have a deeper look into the functional usage data of your licensed Public Cloud products. With that you gain a better understanding which functionalities of a product your company is actually using, and to what extent.

The functional usage data is provided on Solution Capability level.

A Solution Capability describes a functional ability of a single or multiple software products that implement and support a Business Capability. By definition, a Solution Capability is product specific. If multiple Software Products fulfill the same function, separate Solution Capabilities are required to represent them.

The measurement values shown in SAP for Me are retrieved from your production systems only. A Solution Capability is considered as Used as soon as there are positive traffic values of documents, calls and/or users. If no traffic is being sent a solution capability is considered and shown as non-used.

Functional Usage data is accessible through two different entry points in SAP for Me:

  1. Customer Insights Reporting: You can get an overview of the usage across your entire portfolio. Learn more about this area in the dedicated SAP Community blog post.
  2. Portfolio & Products Dashboard: Consume the functional usage information per individual Public Cloud product.

 

How to Access Usage Information

To access this tab, you can go one of two routes within SAP for Me.

Option 1: Start in the Reporting and jump to a specific product:

When accessing the Customer Insights Reporting Tab “Cloud Functional Usage”, you can start your analysis by looking at the information on your entire portfolio. By utilizing the provided filters you can deepen your analysis and deep dive into any product you are interested in (please see here the full explanation around Reporting). By clicking on the product name in the table on the lower half (see screenshot below) you will be redirected to the product detail page for usage.

Option 2: Access the product via Portfolio & Products

If you already know which product you would like to take a closer look into, you can access the Portfolio & Products area in SAP for Me and select the product you are interested in.

Within the product site, select the tab “Usage” in order to see the usage information.

How to Work with the Product Usage Tab 

In the product usage tab, you can see a graph showing the historic trend of the used and non-used Solution Capabilities, in this example for Commerce Cloud. The green bars show the used Solution Capabilities per month, while the grey bars show the non-used Solution Capabilities per month over the past 12 months. The orange line represents the Functional Footprint which is the share of used Solution Capabilities vs. total number of Solution Capabilities which are being measured in any given month.

In the table below the chart you can access more details:

  • The green marked column shows you a list of all the Solution Capabilities this product entails if at least one Solution Capability is being used
  • The blue marked columns show the usage status of each individual Solution Capability, meaning, has it been used over a) the last month, b) the last 6 months, and c) the last 12 months.
  • The purple marked column (the last) indicates how many of your industry peers have used this specific solution capability in the past month. This is being shown in the categories Low, Moderate or High. It reflects the percentage of customers of your industry using a Solution Capability in comparison to the median “Customer Footprint – Share Industry Peers” of the corresponding Logical Product.
  • The pink marked column gives you an indication of how intense this Solution Capability was used in your company in the last month vs. how intense it was used in your peer companies in the last month. In case this Solution Capability wasn’t used in your company in the last month, N/A will be display in this particular line.

You can filter this table according to different information:

Value Drivers: Select a certain strategy or goal to improve the performance of your organization to view the related Solution Capabilities.

Line of Business: Filter the list according to functional areas as organized by SAP.

Business Area: Filter the list according to specific business task areas as organized by SAP.

 

As with other sections and cards in SAP for Me you can download the information in the table into an excel file in order to use it for further analysis.

Get Additional Insights into SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition

For our frontrunner SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition usage insights have been live in SAP for Me since early 2023. For this product SAP for Me offers additional information such as Active Users and Most Used Apps.
