Expo 2020 opened its doors and with it the first SAP Next-Gen event, inviting students from
SAP University Alliances around the world, and it was a great success!
Hundreds of Scouts and students from over 171 countries gathered for a
Snap! hybrid coding workshop, being run as part of this year’s JOTA-JOTI program - the world’s largest scouting event - during Expo 2020 on October 16 youth had the chance to take part in the workshop in-person, yet students from around the globe were welcome to join the coding event virtually. As part of the workshop, participants learned the basics of the Snap! computer programming language and then applied the skills they learned to design one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goal icons. Besides learning about communication technology, the workshop enabled participants to connect with fellow scouts and students from across the globe. Also, attendees had the chance to meet Maher Nasser, Commissioner General of the United Nations for Expo 2020, who gave an inspiring keynote and shared his thoughts and experiences with achieving Agenda 2030.
The workshop is the result of a unique collaboration between SAP, Gems Modern Academy, World Scouting, and the Emirates Scout Association to give youth the opportunity to learn basic computer programming skills and prepare them for professional careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
Wissam Kadi, Director of Global Initiatives at SAP Next-Gen and University Alliances, expressed his pleasure to host and inspire young thinkers during the coding event at the SAP House located in the heart of
Expo 2020 Dubai:
“As the premier Innovative Enterprise Software Partner for Expo 2020 Dubai, SAP is proud to collaborate with World Scouting, Emirates Scout Association, and GEMS Schools to underline SAP’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on Goal 4 to lead the way on quality education.”
Big thank you from SAP Next-Gen to all the workshop participants for a fantastic day of fun, cultural connections, and learning. And special thanks to all the great speakers, including our Global Head of SAP University Alliances, Dr. Katharina Schäfer, for sharing with us their expertise!
