Note: The self-study portion of the digital skills initiative is coming to an end.

  • Application texts can be submitted here until November 4, 2024.
  • Your learning must be completed by December 1, 2024, and a screenshot of completion together with your SAP Community username must be submitted to digitalskills@sap.com by this day at the latest.
  • We will process your request and send you your redemption code by December 20, 2024 at the latest.
  • You must redeem your code in the training shop by December 31, 2024, but can schedule your exam for any date in the following 12 months  (December 31, 2025 at the latest.)

Hello there and thank you for your interest in the digital skills initiative by SAP Learning!

The digital skills initiative is intended to help those who are generally considered to be underrepresented in the technology industry get a kick start in their careers within the SAP Ecosystem.

The definition of people considered to be underrepresented in the technology industry varies by geographic location. However, we can provide the following guideline to help you understand the sort of people we are looking to support with this initiative:

    • Military veterans and their spouses, family and caregivers
    • Women
    • Single parents
    • People who are physically disabled or neurodivergent
    • People in remote or underserved locations that may be not have access to the same economic opportunities as their urban or more privileged counterparts
    • Minorities who may not have equal opportunity in their geographic location
    • First generation college students
    • People looking to switch their careers mid-life
    • People who lack the financial means to afford a certification attempt for themselves

If you identify as a person in one or several of these categories, the digital skills initiative might be for you. The final prerequisite is a willingness to learn more about SAP and to undergo the rigors of studying for SAP Certification.

Here are the next steps on how to proceed:

Step 1 – Create an SAP Account

You will need an SAP account to track your studies and take a certification exam. Watch the demo in this blog for help on how to do that. Please use the same email address that you intend on registering with the digital skills initiative.

Also be sure to join the beginner corner as demonstrated in the demo – this is how you can reach out and ask questions.

Step 2 - Let us know you are interested

Either leave a comment below or start a discussion in the beginner corner stating a clear interest in participating in the digital skills initiative. Feel free to include a bit about yourself like academic / professional background and why you feel you are a good fit to the program. We will send you a registration link to the initiative via direct message. Please ensure private messaging is enabled on your profile.

Another key reason for this step is if you need help with part of a learning journey that you selected (in step 4 below), you can come back here (the beginner corner) to ask for help.

Step 3 – Make sure you have context

We have a long blog available attempting to explain the whole "learning SAP" process from beginning to certification. Take from it what you need to ensure getting certified in SAP is worth the effort to you.

Step 4 - Begin studying

Pick a learning journey that best fits your interests which also leads to a certification. Any learning journey and any exam is covered by this program. Study it to completion, then send a screenshot of the completion & your SAP Community username to digitalskills@sap.com  before 1 December 2024.

Here is a guide on how to determine if your learning journey is free of charge.

Step 5 – Receiving your certification attempt

After your learning journey completion is sent to digitalskills@sap.com, please give us some time to process your request. You will receive a redemption code for your SAP certification attempt as soon as we can get one to you.

Please redeem the code ASAP when you receive it. You can schedule the actual exam up to six month after redemption.

Step 6 - Schedule your exam

Check out our blog on how to schedule your SAP Certification exam.

Step 7 - Explore Career Options

Check out the career corner

Here is a guide on how to approach networking within the SAP Community & Ecosystem

We wish you the best of luck in your learning journey! Leave a comment below if you have any questions.

Dear SAP Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my sincere interest in the SAP digital skills initiative and to humbly request consideration for a free opportunity to obtain an SAP certification.

My current economic situation is quite challenging. I am struggling financially and already have a substantial loan that I am working hard to repay. Despite my best efforts, the high cost of the SAP certification is beyond my reach. This certification, however, is of utmost importance to me as my company is strongly encouraging me to obtain it to continue my career growth within the SAP ecosystem.

I believe I align with the objectives of the SAP digital skills initiative. I am a first-generation college student and economically very poor, which presents additional hurdles in my professional journey. As someone who faces financial hardships and is determined to advance in the technology industry, I see this certification as a crucial step towards achieving my professional goals. Furthermore, the opportunity to acquire these digital skills would significantly enhance my career prospects and enable me to contribute more effectively to my organization.

I am fully committed to undergoing the rigors of studying for the SAP certification and have a strong willingness to learn. I understand the value of this opportunity and am prepared to invest the necessary time and effort to succeed.

I kindly ask for your understanding and consideration of my request for a free certification opportunity. This support would not only alleviate my financial burden but also empower me to progress in my career and overcome the economic challenges I currently face.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to your positive response.

As someone deeply passionate about embarking on a career in SAP consulting, I have dedicated significant time and effort to advancing my skills and knowledge within the SAP ecosystem. However, circumstances beyond my control pose a significant challenge in meeting the costs associated with the cost of taking a paid certification exam.

I am deeply discouraged by the possibility of not being able to pursue the certification due to financial limitations. It feels like a significant obstacle in my career and personal development journey. I recognize the importance of certification in today's competitive job market.

Additionally, as a member of an underrepresented community, I am committed to breaking barriers and achieving success in the tech industry. Obtaining the SAP certification is not only a personal goal but also a crucial step towards advancing my career aspirations and making a positive impact within my community.

I firmly believe that this certification will equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in SAP consulting and contribute effectively to the industry. Therefore, I am reaching out to kindly request your support in the form of a fee waiver for the SAP certification exam.

Your assistance would significantly alleviate the financial burden and enable me to focus wholeheartedly on preparing for and successfully passing the exam.

If given the chance, I will wholeheartedly dedicate myself to the certification process. I am determined to embody SAP's values and maintain the high standards of excellence that your certification is known for.

I hope you will kindly consider my request with compassion and understanding. Your support in this matter would be incredibly meaningful to me and would have a profound impact on my life.

Hi @David_Chaviano

My name is David Gachemi, a recent graduate from Kenya having pursued BSc. Industrial Chemistry. I would like to appreciate the establishment of such a good idea of enabling deserving individuals to get digital skills which are certifiable. I am a youth in my mid 20’s who is a first-generation college student in my family. I am seeking a certification of SAP Business One which will enable me to handle the current market opportunities present in Kenya and outside. Currently in Kenya, there has been a misconception that SAP is for large companies whereas almost 70% of SAP customers fall under the SME category. This directly implies that SAP is and can work in SMEs. With the use of SAP Business One Certification, I can convince clients to be confident in my implementation of SAP Business One and also increase my chances of getting a job opportunity. Several SMEs have been opened in Kenya which presents a unique opportunity, especially with the troublesome taxation in the country a chance to use a business process software that automates most of the processes.

At the moment, I am unable to finance myself to do the certification due to a low salary that I currently receive. Currently, I can do the course without any challenges. I will be deeply grateful to be part of this program. Please consider my application.

Kind Regards,

David Gachemi

Hello @David_Chaviano,

I am Mohamed Amine Ouerfelli, and I am extremely eager to participate in the SAP Digital Skills Initiative. As a first-generation college student from Tunisia, I have faced numerous challenges in accessing educational resources and career opportunities.

Despite my best efforts, financial constraints and limited access to advanced training have hindered my ability to further develop my skills in SAP technologies. Additionally, in Tunisia, government regulations prevent us from paying for things online, making it even more difficult to access necessary resources and certifications.

I am particularly interested in the "Installing and Administering SAP HANA" course. This course is crucial for my career development, as it would provide me with the expertise needed to manage SAP HANA systems effectively. My background in database management and business intelligence has given me a solid foundation, but I need this program to truly excel and make a meaningful impact.

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my keen interest in transitioning to a career in SAP FICO and to seek your guidance on how best to achieve this goal.
With over 12 years of experience in the banking sector, I have developed a strong foundation in financial analysis, accounting, and regulatory compliance. My roles have equipped me with a deep understanding of financial processes and operational workflows, which I believe are directly transferable to a career in SAP FICO.
I am particularly drawn to SAP FICO because of its critical role in financial management and its growing demand across various industries. I am eager to leverage my banking expertise to provide value-added solutions in the SAP landscape.

Hi David,

Thank you for this initiative.

I hold a BSc in Science (Mathematics). Currently I am a mid-career switcher and have been unemployed for more than a year.

I have been trying to apply to various tech jobs to no success. I am keen to learn more digital skills, in particular relating to the SAP ecosystem and I think this opportunity will be a great platform for me to start with.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Alex
