Note: The self-study portion of the digital skills initiative is coming to an end.

  • Application texts can be submitted here until November 4, 2024.
  • Your learning must be completed by December 1, 2024, and a screenshot of completion together with your SAP Community username must be submitted to digitalskills@sap.com by this day at the latest.
  • We will process your request and send you your redemption code by December 20, 2024 at the latest.
  • You must redeem your code in the training shop by December 31, 2024, but can schedule your exam for any date in the following 12 months  (December 31, 2025 at the latest.)

Hello there and thank you for your interest in the digital skills initiative by SAP Learning!

The digital skills initiative is intended to help those who are generally considered to be underrepresented in the technology industry get a kick start in their careers within the SAP Ecosystem.

The definition of people considered to be underrepresented in the technology industry varies by geographic location. However, we can provide the following guideline to help you understand the sort of people we are looking to support with this initiative:

    • Military veterans and their spouses, family and caregivers
    • Women
    • Single parents
    • People who are physically disabled or neurodivergent
    • People in remote or underserved locations that may be not have access to the same economic opportunities as their urban or more privileged counterparts
    • Minorities who may not have equal opportunity in their geographic location
    • First generation college students
    • People looking to switch their careers mid-life
    • People who lack the financial means to afford a certification attempt for themselves

If you identify as a person in one or several of these categories, the digital skills initiative might be for you. The final prerequisite is a willingness to learn more about SAP and to undergo the rigors of studying for SAP Certification.

Here are the next steps on how to proceed:

Step 1 – Create an SAP Account

You will need an SAP account to track your studies and take a certification exam. Watch the demo in this blog for help on how to do that. Please use the same email address that you intend on registering with the digital skills initiative.

Also be sure to join the beginner corner as demonstrated in the demo – this is how you can reach out and ask questions.

Step 2 - Let us know you are interested

Either leave a comment below or start a discussion in the beginner corner stating a clear interest in participating in the digital skills initiative. Feel free to include a bit about yourself like academic / professional background and why you feel you are a good fit to the program. We will send you a registration link to the initiative via direct message. Please ensure private messaging is enabled on your profile.

Another key reason for this step is if you need help with part of a learning journey that you selected (in step 4 below), you can come back here (the beginner corner) to ask for help.

Step 3 – Make sure you have context

We have a long blog available attempting to explain the whole "learning SAP" process from beginning to certification. Take from it what you need to ensure getting certified in SAP is worth the effort to you.

Step 4 - Begin studying

Pick a learning journey that best fits your interests which also leads to a certification. Any learning journey and any exam is covered by this program. Study it to completion, then send a screenshot of the completion & your SAP Community username to digitalskills@sap.com  before 1 December 2024.

Step 5 – Receiving your certification attempt

After your learning journey completion is sent to digitalskills@sap.com, please give us some time to process your request. You will receive a redemption code for your SAP certification attempt as soon as we can get one to you.

Please redeem the code ASAP when you receive it. You can schedule the actual exam up to six month after redemption.

Step 6 - Schedule your exam

Check out our blog on how to schedule your SAP Certification exam.

Step 7 - Explore Career Options

Check out the career corner

We wish you the best of luck in your learning journey! Leave a comment below if you have any questions.

David

Hello @David_Chaviano, I came across this Digital Skills opportunity and I'm interested at this. Recently I am working at one of our HR teams at SAP and would like to learn any new skills, which might help me to change my job and field.

I've never studied IT official way such as an university but undergone an interesting week of Java for high school graduates at one IT company some years ago. Right now in my free time I am self studying the GitHub and later on Git, Python, SQL.

I'm not sure if I qualify for this program but I appreciate what opportunity you offer to all of us. 😃

Hi @David_Chaviano

I think I am suitable for the advertisement. I served as a military personnel in my country between 2012-2016. Afterwards, I have a total of 8 years of private sector experience, 5.5 years of which I worked as a sales specialist in the foreign trade sector. I have used different ERP programs during my work. I have a good command of Microsoft office programs. In the last year of these 5.5 years, I took courses in the field of SAP SD and turned to the SAP sector. I have been actively working as an SAP consultant for the last 2.5 years. In this process, I have made very rapid progress thanks to my past sales distribution experience and ERP dominance. I want to get SAP certificates in order to progress quickly in the sector and gain a place in the sector.

My name is Christine, a woman from Kenya. I have worked in information technology for a few years and have developed an eagerness to attain certification in SAP SuccessFactors. This requires a big budget, especially for me who is a mum and in between jobs.

The opportunity that has been accorded by SAP is incredible, not only to me but for the many who will benefit from free SAP certification.

This certification will provide me with the assurance that I can and will get opportunities to work in implementing SAP SuccessFactors for various companies.

Hello @David_Chaviano,

My name is Cephus Legall-Brickey. I am a 32 year old black male in the IT Support field currently. I have been recently coming to terms with my status as a neurodivergent individual after spending the majority of my life ignoring and underestimating its real impact.

My passion lies in the amazing versatility of technology and its applications, with an emphasis in Cybersecurity GRC. To this end I have self taught myself Sec+, Network+ and A+, as well as kept continual tabs on new an emerging computer hardware and software in the personal and enthusiast spheres. However, I have not had the resources or opportunity to realize this goal and move myself beyond consumer IT support. Now, one resource I have in temporary abundance is time, and I aim to use it to realize this career path.

Yesterday, I had a meeting with a career coach who recommended I look into SAP. I was surprised to see that its software had security and GRC applications in the corporate scene. Delving in further, I came across this initiative.

Along with a number of other resources that I have been pointed towards, I believe this initiative will allow me to officially begin a career in GRC consultation by leveraging the values of SAP software in tandem with separate cybersecurity qualifications. I would like to formally express my desire to take part and be an impactful member in the forward momentum of this community.

Thank You,

Cephus

Hello @David_Chaviano

I'm so delighted to join the SAP community. My name is Jiani, 29 years old, from Shanghai, China. I'm the first generation of my family to attend university, and due to China's previous one-child policy, I'm also my parents' only daughter. I majored in Business English in college, won a national English competition award, and self-studied Japanese, achieving JLPT N1 in my second year. After graduating in 2017, I initially expected a promising career path, but things didn't go as planned. Despite my language skills, I found myself in roles like technical support in foreign enterprises, which didn't quite suit me. My cheerful personality often clashed with my superiors—I enjoy communicating with customers to understand their product needs. However, due to job nature and corporate culture, my proactive approach didn't always garner positive feedback. In April this year, I was laid off due to my company's withdrawal from China. During my job search, I discovered SAP, a company I hadn't known before (our ERP software was Microsoft's Business Center). I realized my strong communication skills and passion for technology are better suited for roles like SAP Business Consultant. My career goal is to become an expert in logistics modules (SD/MM/PP) within three years, qualify as a project manager for clients within five years (by age 35), and become a SAP instructor and expert across modules (including FICO) within ten years. To achieve this, I've started my own WeChat public account and social media profiles in China to share SAP-related knowledge. I believe SAP, as a benchmark ERP, will thrive in the Chinese market amid the expansion of Chinese enterprises abroad. I aspire to be an SAP "Ambassador," training the next generation of SAP consultants and standardizing the industry. Most SAP consultants in China lack relevant certifications, leading to a mixed-quality market. Obtaining SAP certification will not only facilitate my career transition but also contribute to the future standardized and streamlined development of ERP industries in China. Thank you.
