We want to reduce the space on login screen from 40 to 8 in ECC 6.0

Hello

upgrade from R/3 4.6C to ECC 6.0 was performed.

Maximum Password length in R/3 4.6C is 8.

Maximum Password length in ECC 6.0 is 40.

Customer here wants Maximum Password Length in ECC 6.0 to be 8 and password rules to be applicable in ECC 6.0 same as in R/3 4.6C.

We have set the the following profile parameters

login/password_downwards_compatibility was to 5 .

login/password_charset was set to 0

After restarting SAP instance, maximum password length showed 8 when resetting the password using tx code su01.

However The space was not reduced on login Screen from 40 to 8 in ECC 6.0.

We want to reduce the space on login screen from 40 to 8 in ECC 6.0.

Please suggest the solution.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Jinesh,

If you have setup the Maximum Password length= 8 in ECC6.0 then ,though the user enteres password more than 8 characters then only first 8 character get consider.

I don't think u can reduce the space of 40 characters to 8 on login screen.

I don't think there is any intended way of doing this.

The reason is that even if you change the params, there will most likely still be some passwords of longer and different types which have not changed their password to the new rules yet, or never will.

They should still be able to logon though, at least once.

Cheers,
