Hi,

I couldnt understand why Log files are not created for a Request in QA - Quality server.

In SE09 there are 4 types of Request Types exists - how to know which one to choose while creating a new Request.

I appreciate ur time.

Regards

Krithika

Hi Krithika,

When you change an object in workbench ( say SE38 ) it will automatically ask for a transport . If you create here it will be a workbench request .

However suppose you want to transport something where no change is required , you can create a "Transport of Copies" in SE01 and then add your objects to it .

What exactly is your issue ?? If you want to see the log you can goto Se01 and display the logs here .

Cheers

Hi Sanjay,

Thanx

1)In Dev - Server i can goto SE09 and be able to view the Logs by choosing on the Request no and clicking the Transport Logs button , but in QAS it is not possible to view Logs for any Request numbers.

2) say for ex i want to create a transport request - for transporting Variants / Table contents ......

Which request type i should choose - customising / workbench/..., will it vary according to the transporting object?

Typically you will not go to SE09 to create a request unless you know exactly what you are doing. When you change any object, system will recognize whether it is a transportable object and if so, it will prompt you to create or choose an existing transport request number. System will also know what type of transport request it needs to create. But just for your understanding, you will create a customizing request if your changes are related to tables that are customizing tables(it is an attribute of the table). You will create a workbench request for all those objects that you work on using the workbench tools(including programs, tables, screens, status etc)

Hi Krithika ,

1) Logs are stored at O/s level . If your log file is different for dev & QA then you would not be able to see . In our system the log files ( as well as data & co files directory ) are mirrored so our dev / qa / prod point to the same physical directory and we can see logs in all the 3 systems . Can you display a transport in your qa system.

2) If you change an object in a workbench it will automatically create a workbench . If you change customizing then a customizing request is created. However if you want to create transport manually it is always good to create "Transport of copies " in SE01. It works for all object types.

Cheers.

Check there is some radio button like "Problem Solved " against the responses you got.I think you used these buttonss to mark couple of responses as Very Helpful answers . Same way you can mark one of the responses as "Problem Solved"

Cheers

Hi Karthik,

What is a transport? It is just a collection of your changes to some object in the DEVELOPMENT server. You make all your changes in your development server, assign a transport to it(actually you assign a development class that requires a transport request to be created) and unit test it and then release to the next server. When you release the transport, you are actually creating another version of this object in the development server. Even this transport is owned by development server. So when you move the transport to QA server, all you are doing is applying the changes. You don't keep track of the versions there neither do you keep the logs there. Once the import is done, feedback goes back to the development server.

All the logs and versions are kept in development server. QA and production servers only keep the latest version. That is the bottom line.

With regards to what type of transport should one create, I think Sanjay answered it. If yo still have doubts, please let us know.
