To learn about ABAP Mapping

I would like to learn about ABAP Mapping.

What is the importance of it and where it is applied?

Could you please guide me regarding this?

This is a special case of XI Mapping in general.

the other methods of mapping are xslt mapping/java mapping.graphical mapping and XSLT using ABAP.

ABAP mapping(for that matter any mapping) would convert the source data which is in xml format, into target format(xml) as per rule.
