Hi,
We have a requirement of translating a smartform to 4 regional languages. The transaction for translation is se63. But trouble is we don't have a unicode R/3 server. Hence the transaction SE63 too will not support unicode text for translation.
Is there any other way translation can be done, because standard business packages do provide translated text even though the server is not unicode supported.

I know only SE63 to translate a smartform, if you can't use it, i think you have to drive the language by smartform. That is you create many texts how many are the languages and than the choose of text element to display depend on language that's processed.
It's dirty solution but i think it works

Hi Max,
Trouble is we cant even do that because one of the languages we have to support Chinese which is a 2 byte code and the server will not support the Chinese codepage. Is there any other way we can upload this text?

First of all, did you check the translated languague in the header of the smartforms : Forms attribute>General attribute>Translate. Here you chose the language by selecting each.
And the after you can translate the form with the transaction se63
