relation between goods receipt and material document number

i got stuck up at one functional doubt. can any one say link between goods receipt and material document number. in other way, i wanted to know difference between these two i.e. goods receipt and material document number. or both are same.

at the time of post MIGO transaction. matrial doc number is the out put of migo which show goods are recevied.

While posting the goods material document number is created. So material document number gives the particular goods receipt details.

MIGO_GI transaction is used to post the goods.

Material Document is nothing but the Goods receipt document.

In short, both are same.

All material movements are tracked in SAP using material documents. Goods reciept is one of the material movements where you receive material inventory into a location. Since it is a material movement, it is also tracked by creating a material document. In short, all goods receipts are material movements and hence are material documents, but not every material document is a goods receipt document. Every material document is identified by the movement type used against the material.
