Differentiating EDI and ALE in SAP to non-SAP interfaces.

Dear All,

I understand that the difference between ALE and EDI process lies in the communication layer where , for ALE its memory-to-memory buffer (through tRFC) and for EDI its mainly file ports (subsystem triggered by rfcexec). SAP says ALE can be used for SAP to third party interfaces, so my doubt is in third party scenarios since they cant talk directly(cant call IDOC_INBOUND_ASYNCHRONOUS remotely) there should be a kind of subsystem(like EDI) , without this subsystem how we can use only ALE processes to communicate to third party systems. It will be of great help if someone can address this.

Regards,

hi

ALE can very well communicate with the external systems(3rd party).

SAP has certified certain ALE Convertors which is equivalent to Sub systems used in EDI.

You can get the list of ALE Convertors in https://service.sap.com up on providing your login credentials.

Cheers,
