Can 3rd party External Numbering be implemented simply?

My company wants to implement external numbering for Raw Materials and Semi Finished based on chemical composition.

I believe the intent is to maintain IP security.

however, this means that variations in RM pack size, supplier, supplier trade name require multiple layers of data/material masters to cross reference to facilitate picking and manufacturing

Could something like Product hierarchy be utilized to refer to a ztable to pick up trade names held, for example, in a PIR.

Or is there an alternate approach we shoudl consider

Please excuse any terminology errors it's not really my bag

Hi John,

Your project looks quite complex and probably needs a lot of development. I think it can be done (but not "simply").

To do this, the external number range must match the SAP number range. This means that the number ranges assigned in the external system should be in the number range interval of the number range of the respective object in SAP. In this way, the externally assigned numbering can be kept in sync with the SAP system.

In this way, the number ranges between the SAP systems are also kept synchronous. For example, between an SAP ECC system and an SAP SRM system in that the business partner number is identical.

The complexity of implementing your requirement depends on how many different number ranges (numbering) you need to keep synchronised.

Jim
