you could develop the interface in webdynpro, so you only need a barcode scanner with IE support

We have been using Intermec CK30 and CK31 but these are older models.  If you look at them now, it would be CK70 series.  You can interface with the scanner via SAPConsole.

Hello Lakshman.

     Normally barcode scanners will read the barcode and place the data where mouse cursor is pointed to. It is irrespective of the software.It can be SAP/Notepad/Word.

     We have been using TVS barcode scanner BS-C 101 star for our screen based applications.

     I guess you din't get my point.

     You need just a barcode scanner not specifically to SAP.

     Wherever the cursor is placed, the scanned data will be fed from the scanner to the software (SAP/Notepad/whichever software the cursor is placed into).

Sounds like you need scanner to run SAP application on it directly without connection to a workstation.  That's what we do in my company as well.  Look at Intermec and SAPConsole. It works well for us.  We are using it to do goods movement on the plant floor where user walking around in a big warehouse moving goods from storage location to another using the SAP screen on the scanner.

How bar code scanner works

Barcode scanners begin by illuminating the code with red light. The sensor of the barcode scanner detects the reflected light from the illumination system and generates an analog signal with varying voltage that represent the intensity (or lack of intensity) of the reflection. The converter changes the analog signal to a digital signal which is fed to the decoder. The decoder interprets the digital signal, does that math required to confirm and validate that the barcode is decipherable, converts it into ASCII text, formats the text and sends it to the computer the scanner is attached to.
