Hi all,
with Java 6, the Java version SAP GUI for Java 7.20 is based on, approaching end of support, it is time for a new major release of SAP GUI for Java.
Besides using Java 7, SAP GUI for Java 7.30 will support various new OS versions and Linux distributions, comes with new themes, employs the Java Security Model and includes various new features.
We would like to offer a beta program for early adopters in order to let you get an impression on the new release before it is officially shipped, to receive feedback and to get into a dialog with some of you.
If you are interested in participating in the beta program you can apply for registration by creating a support message now. The message should be created on component BC-FES-JAV with the title "7.30 beta program" and you should provide
This data will exclusively be used for organizing the beta program.
You will need to sign a test and evaluation agreement before getting registered.
If you are registered you will be supplied with a beta version of SAP GUI for Java 7.30 in late October 2012. Please note that the number of participants is limited and thus only customers who can and will actively participate in the program should register.
The new release is scheduled to be shipped to customers with full support in Q4/2012 (subject to change) and it will come with the following new features and enhancements:

Hello Rolf-Martin,
it is possible to participate to this beta-program as a independent consultant without being SAP customer?
In fact, I am working a lot with the SAP GUI Java but all of my customers are not interested because their preferred platform is still Windows.
Kind regards and have a good time in San Francisco,
Hendrik

Hello again,
there are still some seats for test drivers available. We are currently looking in particular for racing cars with Linux and Windows engines, but OS X is still welcome.
Best regards

Hallo Rolf-Martin,
I use Debian stable on my workstation and notebook with SAP Gui for Java, has it sense to make test in such (oficially unsupported) environment? If so, I can make it.

Pavel

Hello Pavel,
good to see some sign of life after such a long time.
Regarding Linux distribution, the position still is (copied from the manual)
"These Distributions are tested and officially supported.
We expect that SAP GUI runs with other distributions as well and appreciate any feedback about potential problems."
Since Ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04 will be officially supported and Ubuntu is built on Debian, you should be fine.
So, please go ahead and send us your request like described above.
Looking forward for your feedback
Rolf-Martin

Hello Rolf-Martin,
when no problems (with Gui) are visible, you cannot see me here 🙂 Too busy to spend time in discussions without reason.

Hallo Herr Worsinger,

Hi Rolf-Martin,
Is it possible to give a status update as to the release of SAPgui 7.30 for Java ? ...is it still scheduled for Q4/2012 release ?
I work at a University where many people use Mac's so at the moment we are just telling them 10.8 is not supported as we find a lot are upgrading to Java 7 which is causing problems.
Thanks.

Nelis

Hello Nelis,
Q4/2012 still is the plan.
Even after upgrading to Java 7, the options in the Info.plist file of the application bundle of SAP GUI for Java 7.20 makes sure to use Java 6.
What kind of problems is causing the upgrade to Java 7? Java 6 and Java 7 can coexist.
Best regards
Rolf-Martin

Hi Rolf-Martin,
Thanks for the reply.
New Mac's do not come with Java installed and the only option then when it is needed is to install Java 7 as you are redirected to the Oracle website for this. I will pass the Info.plist information on to our helpdesk thanks. Although, from what I've seen all systems upgraded to Mountain Lion with latest update have Java removed and the only option is to install Java 7 from Oracle unless you know what you're doing and can install Java 6(which most new Mac users don't). For our large user base this is a lot of support so it is sometimes easier just to say not supported "yet" until further notice.
If it is still due for Q4/2012 this should not be a problem.

Nelis

Hello Nelis,
the migration from Apple's Java 6 to Oracle's Java 7 is not really as smooth as it should be both regarding timing and technically. Also the decision to remove applet and Web Start support from Java 6 with an update to 1.6.0_37 has not been communicated in advance. Apple and Oracle really could do a better job in this matter.
To get Java 6 installed on Mountain Lion, see http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 .
How to re-enable the applet plug-in and Web Start support, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559 .
If you just need to run SAP GUI for Java stand alone and do not plan to run use it as an applet, the first install is sufficiant.
There will be also a SAP note on this.
Best regards
Rolf-Martin

Hello Rolf-Martin,
One of our customers was using the 7.30 version of the gui and having issues with transaction CM21. They could not Dispatch, Deallocate, drag, drop, order change using the new gui. Has this issue been reported already so that it would be fixed in patch 2?

Randy

Hello Randy,
please create a separate thread, since your question is related to SAP GUI for Windows, not SAP GUI for Java, what this thread is about.
Best regards
