In this blog series, I’d like to draw your attention to some of the new activity during the past month on the SAP User Experience Community, a public community dedicated to the exchange of ideas and knowledge about design and user experience.

The Community is for everyone interested in design and user experience, so join the conversation!

My List of November Highlights from the SAP User Experience Community

In Learn the basics about design and user experience:

• Nissan Graisel from the Israeli design company, Whiteboard, talks about design work in general and his experience in particular participating in a 2-day design thinking workshop about SAP Fiori. Read more in his post, We are all Design(Think)ers!

In Skill up on design and user experience:

• The SAP User Experience Community team created a post about the newest page on www.experience.sap.com dedicated to SAP design guidelines and similar resources. Whether you are looking for SAP’s latest design guidelines or something a little bit older, We’ve collected all the links for you in this one handy spot: The SAP Design Guidelines and Resources page right. Included are links to the SAP Fiori design principles as well as the brand-new Web IDE design guidelines. You will also find links to many other design and UI-related guidelines, all sorted by technology: SAP GUI, Web Dynpro, native mobile guidelines, and more.
• In her post, Collect Them All! (An Activity to Bring People Together), SAP’s Stef Huber talks about a gamified activity that she and her colleagues designed for an internal UX event at SAP. If you are looking to bring people together at your next event, as well as have some fun and leverage a great learning opportunity in the bargain, learn how to do it by reading this post.

In our Discussion forum:

• There are two new discussions started by SAP’s Chief Designer, Martin Wezowski. 
  • In the first, Culture eats strategy for breakfast – Spotify engineering culture, Martin points us to two amazing videos by Spotify about how the Swedish high tech company leverages their trust-based, autonomous culture to heal broken processes. It’s a fascinating look into their engineering processes and agile culture.
  • In the second, Martin and I have a bit of back and forth banter about Facebook at Work. Check out A user centred take on facility management at Facebook, using, well, Facebook and let us know your opinion
• In his discussion Creating Animations and Interactions with Physical Models Thomas Biedermann points to a great resource for improving the “feeling” of an application with animations. And if you are interested in responsive web design, also check out Thomas' link to Simple GIFs to explain responsive design.
• Stephen Dorward, lead architect with the Lloyds Banking Group, talks about how his positive experiences at the UK & Ireland SAP User Group and discussions with SAP’s Global Head of Design and Co-Innovation Center, Andreas Hauser, turned him from an SAP UX sceptic to “to have a new found respect for SAP and the work being done around the UX.”
• If you are interested in design trends, I highly recommend Looking Back; Looking  Forward – The Past and Future of User Interfaces. Here Clemens Sandner points out two resources – one that demystifies legends from our UI past, and another that is sure to wow you with experimental interfaces that are being developed right now.
