I have been thinking of a way to provide an alert framework for users and support personnel to provide a way to notify people of the certain statuses and events in custom processes, and obviously Alert Management comes to mind, though I know very little about it.

My first impression, from launching the Alert Inbox BSP app from transaction ALRTINBOX is that it is not in a usable state:
Clicking on the Personalization link leads to a path that does not even have a handler anywhere in the ICF:
Then, going to transaction ALRTCATDEF to try and define an example category leads to a short dump when saving:
It's a real pity, as I could see this being a very handy framework to alert users about statuses of jobs or other events in the system.
What other framework or solution does SAP propose?
