IDOC with EDI segment

As my understanding, EDI is used for non sap and SAP or IDOC is used for SAP to SAP transfer.

so if we want to transfer PO from another SAP server to another SAP server, we should use IDOC not EDI?

but in one case, IDOC is transfered from one SAP server to another SAP server, we Update User Exit MM06E001-EXIT_SAPLEINM_011 to populate segment E2EDS01, as I know E2EDS01 is EDI segment. so we should use EDI or IDOC?

Hi

IDoc is a container which is used to transfer the data between SAP - SAP System. It is used primarily used in SAP ALE scenarios.

IDoc can also be used to transfer the data into Non SAP system where by the middle ware such as EDI subsystem converts the IDoc into the format understandable by the Receiving system.

It is not correct to ask whether IDoc or EDI should be used for transfer. The ideal way of asking should be ALE Vs EDI. Hope this clarifies.
