Customer Thoughts on eCATT

Hi all,

I have come across some of the Customer thoughts about eCATT.

1. Why eCATT is not much advertised to the customer like other products of SAP ?

(Because its shipped free ?)

2. They are not ready to automate the eCATT but instead they are looking for the readymade scripts available in place ??

Is it avialable ??

If yes,what would be Re-usability of them ?

Where can i find it?

what the number of scripts they can Re-use it?

3.What is the future for eCATT ?

I will try to answer your questions:

1. Why eCATT is not much advertised to the customer like other products of SAP ?

(Because its shipped free ?)

=> I guess that this is actually the reason. We (eCATT) are not doing any advertising, our product is shipped free, so anyone can use it for free (if he knows that the product exists).

2. They are not ready to automate the eCATT but instead they are looking for the readymade scripts available in place ??

=> The eCATT team itself is not delivering any standard test cases to the customer. Standard test cases for re-use would only make sense if they are very specific for the application to be tested, therefore this would be more up to the departments responsible for the product or application to be tested.

I know that some (very few) departments ship some eCATT test scripts in order to ensure the qualitiy of their product at the customer side.

I would recommend to concact the component which is responsible for the application to be tested and ask them whether they deliver (eCATT) test cases or not. But most likely the answer will be No, as eCATT is used for SAP internal tests and tests at the customer, but not to deliver standard tests from SAP to the customer.

3.What is the future for eCATT ?

=> The future of eCATT is:

- continous improvements and enhancements in the tool

- trying to cover all new strategic SAP technologies

- improve the integration into the Solution Manager to ease end-to-end scenarios

- ...

Hi Markus,

Just adding to the query in the start of this thread. We have rumours of eCATT gonna shelved or not gonna be used since SAP & HP have partnered for TAO, QTP and QC. Are these just rumours or the stratyegic alliance would really phase out eCATT. Please share any knowledge on the latest developments on eCATT as well if you have any.

Hello ,

As per me one of the reason why eCATT is not shipped to the customer is that it involves setting up of the team for the maintenance and continuous support to the customer from the test script point of view.

Also the future of eCATT looks bright with lot of enhancements in the tool in itself with lot of features to support varios SAP technologies.
