custom PO IDOC outbound- How to generate custom status messages

I am able to successfully create a custom outbound idoc file when a PO is saved using user exit MM06E001.

Now, I want to be able to create STATUS RECORDS for the idoc for any custom errors. How can I display errors in the Status records(we20) of my idoc while creating the idocs in exit MM06E001?

For example) while filling my custom idoc and a mandatory field is empty, I want to be able to force the idoc to error and display a certain message on idoc status records.
