Just noted that the newest beta of SLES 11 SP2 uses Linux Kernel 3.0:
# uname -a
Linux btrfsap 3.0.4-0.11-xen #1 SMP Mon Sep 5 20:20:34 UTC 2011 (88ecc7a) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Because the SAP kernels are not configured for that I get SICK messages - though the system runs nicely.
Are there any plans adding Linux 3.0 to the supported operating systems in the kernel?

Markus,
in case SUSE sticks with 3.0 (which potentially could cause lots of troubles for all kinds of software - not only SAP) they have to provide a solution for this. However, SAP kernels will of course be prepared for Linux Kernel 3.0 as soon as it is going to be officially available through SUSE.

We have solved that issue and described the solution in SAP note 1310037. To help customers to find this SAP note we also
have added a paragraph relating to SAP in the SLES 11 SP2 release notes.
The SAP note 1310037 "SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 11: Installation notes" (version >36) describes how to update and install SAP software on the new Linux 3.0 kernel.
You could either
- Update the SAP kernel to the newest level (see also SAP Note
SAP note 1629558 "Linux 3.x Kernel" describes which SAP Kernels are already compatible with Linux 3.x Kernels
- Use the "Kernel 2.6 compatibility mode" for SAP
We have tested various SAP products with different stacks (ABAP, Java, Dual-Stack) and proceeded installations, upgrades and
updates and all worked fine with either updating to the newest SAP Kernel or using the "Kernel 2.6 compatability mode".
