Problems with Excel Inplace view after upgrading to 7.30

Hey there,

after I upgraded from 7.20 to 7.30 the Excel inplace view no longer works:

Excel opens in the SAP GUI "iView" an freezes:

I found some OSS notes and updated to patch level 1, but still the same. Any ideas besides downgrading or waiting for patch level 2?

This issue is known to us and will be fixed in patch 2 of 7.30

Patch 2 is expected to be released about December.

Per SAP Note 1804535 the blank excel sheet with inplace redering is corrected with core patch 3 for SAP GUI 7.30 and core patch 15 for SAP GUI 7.20. 

Patch 3 for SAP GUI 7.30 was available since February 27, 2013.

we upgraded to sap gui 730 patch 7 but we also  have the blank excell sheet  when we use excell inplace

can anyone tell me how that is possible?

Hello B. WSM,

What version of Excel are we dealing with here?

When running the Excel inplace functionality in the SAP ALV, by default, the data will not get automatically transferred to Excel. You have to do some macro security settings activation.  After activating you have to close Excel and run Excel inplace functionality once again.

Have you done a health check of the desktop installation of SAP GUI 7.30?  Try going to core patch 8.

Are you perchance also running the Business Explorer Add-On?  If yes, upgrade to FEP 600.

This is an interesting SAP Note!  OFFI: Excel inplace functionality won't work in SAP GUI 7.30, note 1725474.  It has no reference to a patch when this would be fixed.  The validity date is 06-01-2012.

its Excell 2010

it works ok with excell 2007

we already set the security settings

we do have busines explorer 7

i am working at the min of defense and we have virtualized the sap gui

we now have patch level 7

its not easy to go to patch 8 or upgrade the business explorer

so

is there something i can do to get it working?

by the way

we wil replace office 2010 with office 2013 in the coming months

could that solve the problem?

Reference SAP Note 696069 -No data when view Excel Inplace on ALV with Office 2003/XP

Required settings in Office 2010 and Office 2013:

To use the Excel Inplace functionality, select 'enable all macros' in

Macros settings and the option "Trust access to Visual Basic Project"

must be checked on File->Options->Trust Center->Click 'Trust

Center Settings' button->Macro Settings.

This is required with MS Office XP, MS Office 2003, MS Office 2007, MS

Office 2010 , MS Office 2013.

Can you verify these settings.

Hello Henk Van Gool,

In regards to Office 2013 this also brings in the newer browser.  How do stay on top  Desktop Office Integration Compatibility issues if it's not easy to upgrade client components?  You also have to monitor ABAP Components, Java Portal Components and SAP Kernel patch levels every time a core Microsoft Components is changed on the Desktop. 

Usually when office 2013 is pushed out there's another project  to roll out Windows 8.1.  There is a better user experience with Office 2013 + IE 10 + Windows 8.1.  Microsoft KB updates can ruin your day as well.

i started the program

for one user is was ok for the other user there was still a blank screen.

note 696069 was ok

1383755 is that a correct note ? the subject is FBJC?

note 1804535 suggest patch 3 but we are are implementing patch 7.

we are going to check 66971 in detail

we use sap gui with APP-V

we found out something strange

with one user it was ok three times

the fourth time there was a blank screen and since then it doensnt work anymore

with another user it didn work at all...

we are going to investigate..

we came to the conclusion that it is caused by our APP-V

we do not have time to further investigate

we are going to the sap gui in another way.

no further assistance is required.

if we know what caused the problem we will add it in this thread....

Hello Henk,

SAP Note 19794276 - OFFI: Blank Excel with more rows and columns in Excel Inplace mode

Blank Excel is displayed when many rows and columns are present.  This happens when view is changed from ALV Grid to Excel Inplace.  The fix is supposedly to come in SAP GUI 7.30 core patch 9 and this is expected to be released around the second week in May 2014.
