It’s hard to overvalue the need for programs that help girls foster a love for technology. Given the challenges, it is critical to provide support to girls in the steps they need to reach an IT career. Why?
The biggest reason is the skill shortages that the technology sector is facing. A fact we are all aware of.
But it’s not just about getting more girls into technology to fill the increasing demand. If women aren’t involved in the design of new products, they risk being inundated with products that don’t actually meet their needs. And that’s the point.. If it’s all being designed by men, what kind of technology will we end up with?
But last but not least and equally persuasive, argument for increasing the numbers of women in the technology sector is how organizations with more women operate. Companies and teams with gender diversity have been shown to solve complex problems better and faster, be creative, share knowledge, and fulfill tasks. Gender diversity on technical work teams has been found to align with project schedules on time, lower projects costs and higher employee performance ratings. Teams with a mix of men and women on them function with greater efficiency.
So how do we actually get more girls and women joining SAP? That’s where people like Anka Wittenberg come in. She’s been leading the way for SAP in her role as chief diversity and inclusion officer on the global scale for SAP, encouraging girls and women to give technology a go.
Today she joined SAP InnoJam – Coding the Future and shared her insights of her career and described ways to embrace diversity for a successful workplace. To think entrepreneurial, focus on the strengths everybody brings to the table, participate in the discussion and to create opportunity. For her diversity is to strike the balance of all the demographics and values in general all forms and differences that deal with our unique combination of culture, race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental ability, work-life situation.
And therefore diversity is an inherent part of our SAP InnoJam - Coding the Future, more than 70 female and male students from 17 different countries can adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and sustainable skills that will help our students succeed with the challenge the next two days.
We are curious about the final results on Tuesday!
