In a November 2007 ASUG/SAP OCM Best Practices and Benchmarking survey it showed that OCM drives improved ROI and results on projects as measured by: on time, on scope and on budget = ROI. Interesting, the results showed that the the most successful results, or "leaders" (top 25% results for on time, scope, budget) saw a 20% increase in User Acceptance due to an incremental investment in OCM made by those companies.
This survey looked at a cross section of companies in terms of complexity (scope, implementation type, regions, language, user resistance) to determine the project success drivers regarding OCM resource investment and OCM Best Practices. Consistent with the Value Realization survey of 2006, priorities ranking regarding OCM activities was as follows:
1 - Structured Communications for all Stakeholder Groups
2 - Business Case for Change
3 - Leadership/Sponsorship Engagement Plan and Execution
4 - Execution of Training Plan to address Skills & Competencies
5 - Governance and Decision-Making Structure
Two other observations in the survey were that projects are more successful when OCM is implemented early, in the project planning phase and when supported by an OCM Methodology and Tools.
The full survey results can be gathered by participating in the survey which is accessible from the following link, http://www.asug.com/Benchmarking/BestPracticesSurveys/tabid/490/Default.aspx. As ASUG outlines, the benefits of participation are as follows: Participants will receive a FREE ASUG/SAP Best Practices summary report for each completed survey submitted. These reports highlight key findings and aggregate survey results. These summary reports provide valuable insights around best practice adoption and the maturity of participants’ evaluation strategies. These results can be used to assess where your organization excels and determine areas for improvement in order to take your organization to the next level.
