Today, the real work started with the formal kick-off meetings. Our clients' founders, senior managers were with us and then we split into work streams and in our case, Mark Ruiz from Hapinoy was with us.

Blessing by SAP Philippines Managing Director Darren Rushworth

SAP Philippines office was very kind to host us at their office with beautiful views of the city.

Initial Observations for a Successful Sabbatical Program

Scope of Work definition is more critical than you could possibly anticipate for various reasons:

1-There are many areas that can be improved (which was the case across the board with all 4 teams' clients)

2-Time is limited.

3-A viable and impactful deliverable is of paramount importance for social entrepreneurs. This is not time for fancy documents and suggestions, but truly digestible enterprise strategic roadmaps that will add value to the vision and mission of these amazing entities. 'Ability to execute' is the motto here.

Our Clients for the 4 teams each comprised of 3 SAP volunteers:

What is Next?

Tomorrow, which will be really the first hands on day with Hapinoy members, we will go through several items:

1-Company structure (legal entity structure, any affiliations, JVs, subsidiaries, etc.)

2-Organization structure (with functional overview of employees, who handles which function/divisions) and business setup (physical branches, agent network, etc.)

3-Vision, mission, tactical aspirations (benchmarking Hapinoy to several other organizations similar to their business)

4-Current IT landscape (tools, software solutions that they use, IT infrastructure that they avail, etc.)

5-High-level challenges, short-mid-long term ambitions.

6-High level business operating model

7-Collect Some stats (number of customers, KPIs, financial figures, transaction volumes)

8-Agree on business processes that we need to dig into.

9-A plan to meet and interview different stakeholders that are part of Hapinoy business processes (this will also help us get a 360 view on inputs provided directly from Hapinoy team, which in turn will give us stronger confidence in understanding Hapinoy from several angles).

Outputs (we may not finish this by tomorrow) Expected:

1-List of tactical issues, consequential issues. We will prepare a heatmap to identify criticality of issues

2-Categorization of issues

3-Building a preliminary impact/solution viability matrix on issues

4-Prioritization matrix

Note: Issue means challenges, an area to improve, a process to reengineer, a process to introduce which may not have existed and so on.

Expected End-result (of tomorrow's workshop, which may have followups, such as meeting with multiple stakeholders of Hapinoy's trading ecosystem, that is to say, any entity they interact with)

Clarity on scope based on outputs. Possible options may be:

1-A new business model for Hapinoy

2-Enhancement on existing business model.

3-Technology focused enterprise architecture roadmap, which may or may not include vendor selection criteria

4-Plain vanilla process definitions and suggestions for improvement (with the assumption that business model, services stay the same)

5-Different go to market approach with the existing business model

6-Or we can really pick up a single issue and really go deeper into it and we have already identified some.
