A survey of 1,001 U.S. adults by the Pew Research Center suggests that Americans feel both optimistic and apprehensive about future technology.

According to the survey results, 50% of respondents are most interested in riding in a driverless car, while 26% would get a brain implant to improve their memory or mental capacity.

Why do I mention these somewhat random statistics in a post about SAP’s premiere event SAPPHIRE NOW? Because they are relevant to what millennials are building today. Gen Y is in a position to achieve the next great wave of innovations in the world; the building blocks have been laid down.

So how do we spot opportunities to influence and take charge of these endeavors? A couple of ways:

You have to see what the current state is to set benchmarks.

Every great invention was created upon the identification of gaps in a current market, product or service. Disruptions happen when there are gigantic gaps to fill (like AirBnB for example).

See where the market is going.

Through consuming research, learning from colleagues, and most important, talking directly to customers, you will begin to form a point of view around gaps in the market. The more you learn, the greater the probability of correctly identifying the course that you set as a leader.

And guess what? You can get started on your journey to building the next great invention in Orlando, Florida, June 3-5. There you will learn about:

  1. The latest technology to meet the demands of your current and future customers
  2. Meet some of the smartest people in the world from SAP, partners, and customers
  3. The Future of Business to make sure you are staying ahead of the trends

I leave you with this. Will you be the next Nolan Bushnell? You know, the guy who fired Steve Jobs.....

If you haven’t registered yet, you better register while the iron is hot! Will I see you at SAPPHIRE NOW 2014?
