Great article. With SAP GUI Server 7.3, I can import NWBC 3.5 and patch to pl8, but I'm having problems importing NWBC 4 into the installation server. When I give it the folder the NWBC 4 install file is, I get the message "The specified path is not a valid installation server". The folder I'm using is D:\SAPInstallFiles\SAP GUI 7.3 and NWBC\NWBC 4.0\51044395 and the file is the original NWBC400_0-10011894.exe. How can I get NWBC 4 in the installation server?

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

As NWBC4.0 is a seperate product and not integrated in sapgui i feel we may not incorporate this into gui server. Kindly let me know if you have any work around

It sounds odd to me that NWBC 3.5 is integrated but NWBC 4 is considered a separate product. I'll keep looking for a work around and let you know if I find one. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Jude, but I've tried that. I can have NWBC 3.5 in an install package and deploy it out, but for some reason can't import NWBC 4. BTW, I'm using SAP Installation Server version 9.0.23.0.

Hi Andrew,

Could you please provide me the path of nwbc 3.5 in smp. I would like to test it..

You can download it from the smp at: https://service.sap.com/swdc > Installations and Upgrades > Browse our Download Catalog > SAP Frontend Components > Netweaver Business Client > NWBC NW Business Client 3.5 > Installation

However, it also comes with the SAP GUI 7.30 which is where I import the NWBC 3.5 originally. I then downloaded patch level 8 at https://service.sap.com/swdc > Support Packages and Patches > Browse our Download Catalog > SAP Frontend Components > Netweaver Business Client > NWBC NW Business Client 3.5 > Win32 and applied the patch in the server. So that's how I have NWBC 3.5 on the installation server.

Got the answer from SAP and I verified it works. I'm so happy.

1.) Create an empty folder.

2.) Start the installer in question with the additional parameter

/extract=folder

(e.g. NWBC400_0-10011894.exe /extract="New Folder")

3.) The installer in question now extracts its content into the newly

created folder.

4.) Start NwSapSetupAdmin from your installation server and press the

"Import Products" button and then navigate to the setup subfolder

that has been extracted to the folder created in step 1.

5.) Follow the wizard and the product should be imported.

Mehesh, can you tell me if removing a package from an installation server and replacing it with the same name. will the machines installed from the previous package know the difference? because I've that each package name has a unique id number.

thanks

Hi this guide its great but i have an error when i tried to make a remote installation the error is something like that:

check parameters credentials and verify if the windows workstation is running!

Aldo,

What we're doing for remote installations is to create a package in the installation server and then create an MSI (Microsoft Installer) package that launches the UNC path of the remote install url which is pushed out to users in a Group Policy Update. The install url is:

\\<sap installation server.\ClientInstallServer\Setup\NwSapSetup.exe /Package="<install package name>" /silent

When I tried using the remote installer on the installation server I got the same error you're getting. Hope this helps.

Hello Syed, SAPGUI is not supported for Home versions of any operating systems,

True, but it runs just fine in Win7 Home Premium, which is what I use when I'm supporting systems remotely (i.e., from home instead of the office).  I have yet to find anything about it that doesn't work just the same as in my Win7 Enterprise system at my office.
