Connection to SAP R/3 dedicated system failed....

Hi friends,

I have to read materials from r/3 for which i will have to define an r/3 system in EP , so taht i can use it in VC and access BAPI's as webservices. However my attempts to connect to an r/3 system are failing.

this is the blog that i used to create a System fot r/3 in EP.

when i test connection in EP it says

Results

Retrieval of default alias successful

Connection failed. Make sure user mapping is set correctly and all connection properties are correct.

Please let me know what might be the issues.

Hi Rohit,

Have you done user mapping For the R/3 system?

When you have created the system , you have to define an alias for it.

Then its ready for user mapping.Then you can go ahead and do the

user mapping using user_admin or personalise option.

Please remember to specify the logon method

Hi Rohit,

There can be two possibities for this kind of errors.

1.Either connector properties for the R/3 system u entered are wrong.please check it.

2. You dont have valid R/3 user-id and password.Once you create R/3 system and system alias,go to User admin->user mapping->search for your portal user id->Edit->select your R/3 system Alias Name->give R/3 user id,password.save it and refresh.

Check the connection you will be able to connect to R/3.

hi vineeth ,

how do u do this user mapping.

I have done the following.

opened the object and choose

Display as

A) Object.

1) Entered details for Property Category Connectors

2) Entered Details for Property Category User Management , where i selected Authentication Ticket Type as User Management , Logon Method as UIDPW and User Mapping Type as admin,user.

B) System Aliases

1) gave alias name as SAP_R3

thats it and then i chose diplay as Connection test and tested connection test for connectors.

so apart from this is there some user mapping required, if yes please let me know how n where to do it

Hi Rohit,

When you give the system alias, are you getting a tick mark

that shows your system is ready for user mapping? Then you

can map it.

Also pls check whether you have entered proper data for Connectors

Application Host

Gateway Host as Application Server (from your SAP Log on).

System ID ,

System Number,

Server Port

Client Number.

System Type as SAP_R3.

Is the Gateway host required ? i hadnt given it earlier however i gave it now which is same as application host, and its still not workin

i did the user mapping for my system within user J2EE_ADMIN.

i saw my user in the drop down list, just that it got displayed as SAP_R3(X).

i gave the user id and pwd(it got expanded after giving , may be some encryption that ep must be doing) , but its not working , giving the same error.

was i right in doing the user mapping in j2ee_admin user ?

The values which I mentioned are what I used.What about the tick mark

for the sytem alias?If you are getting that green,the system is fine.

Now for user mapping you should have a valid R/3 id and passwd, which

Hi Rohit,

Gateway host is not mandatory but Application host must be correct(mandatory).

As vineeth said after giving system alias,set it as default and see at the bottom,there should be a msg that user mapping is set properly with a tick mark.

Thats it,I think your connector propertiesm can be wrong.

I gues this is where i might be missing. i created a user mapping within user j2ee_admin. after selecting this user i clicked modify. then went to tab User Mapping for System Access

Choose system as SAP_R3(X) looks like my system as i had given system name and alias as SAP_R3 .

then in mapping data gave user id and pwd.

but u were talking something about "go to personalise, option choose your

system , provide the credentials"

i guess i havent done this , where exactly do u do that ?

Hi ,

Just go to the personalise option on the masthead.

Then go to User Mapping.Then select your system alias, It should be in the list.

Then provide the user id and password for the system in your case,the R/3.

then save.

This completes your user mapping .Then Create an iview(transction) for

your use and start accesing your R/3 using that.

What is your system name?

what is your system Alias name?

For doing user mapping,go to user administration->user mapping->give your portal id->Edit->give your system alias name->r/3 id(not j2ee_admin),r/3 password .

save it.

As you said,you have done user mapping with j2ee admin user,you can not map to your r/3 with this user.

take a user who is having valid id in r/3,give his id and password.save it.

hi guys,

now am confused big time , please bear ..

my System Name : SAPR3

Alias_ Name : SAP_R3

regarding what i see when i click system alias .. here it is

User Mapping Status : (Green Tick Mark) ( Ready for user mapping configuration )

Alias Name: SAP_R3

if you see it says ready for user mapping , does that mean i still havent done it ?

Where is this personalise option on the masthead? and what is masthead ?

regarding User Administration , there are two ..

1) the main big tab i.e Content Administration,User Administration,System Administration

2) within my SAPR3 system , that is in object Display. One of the property Category is is User Administration..

so where exactly is this user mapping , i mean in which user administration ?

Hi Rohit,

No problem , Lets see if we can sort this out.

Just see the top of your portal page with the image and help, personalise links

near it. Go to that persoanlise option and do what I had said.

Other wise in portal, go to User admin and select user mapping.

Remember that you are doing mapping your R/3 user in the portal

Everything has to be done in the portal,You only have to have valid R/3 id and pasword for this

Hope this sorts out everything.Do get back if you hav doubts

see,

when i click User Administration , 3 sub menu popup (sounding so dumb). they are Identity Management, Import and Activity reports. By default its Identity Management.

in that i see, Search Criteria(are u referring to this as User Mapping , as till now i havent seen any text on entire portal like "User Mapping") ,neways, i search user j2ee_admin , edit it , then click modify go to the most extreme tab which is as u said . Select User Mapping for System Access. choose my system , which gets diplayed as SAP_R3(X)(on moving mouse on it it says, "A system followed by (X) indicates an existing user mapping" for the system ) , neways , i give mapping user which is my sap r/3 user and its password.

so is this the user mapping u were talking about as i had done it already , u must have missed my earlier post. but it just refuses to work. my system properties are perfect as i can logon to my r/s using sap logon giving same parameters.

Vineet i see some ray of hope in this provided i can find that damn thing

On my portal home page i see following (again going to be real dumb)

Welcome j2ee_admin

a text box, Search option to its right and Advance Search to its right. on the right most corner i see Help and Log Off(feeling like)

then there are 3 main Administration Tabs. i nowhere see taht personalize tab.

Hi Rohit,

Unfortunately I am not on 04s,Anyway no sweat, lets see what can be done.

That "personalise" is not a tab, You should see it above these mentioned

search box etc, Do you have the image at the top,iT should be at the right of

the image,along with Help.Other wise you have to activate that personalise option.

As for User_admin.The role is on portal itself,along with system admin, Contentadmin as tabs.Just c if these are there.Otherwise they may have to be assigned to you.

Hi Rohit,

As you mentioned you can not find user administration,leave it because you are on NW04s.

Alternative is personaliZe option between Help and Log-off link.As you have entered with j2ee_admin id ,as default you are not assigned to that.

So,You can search for eu role in user admin,assign that role to your j2ee_admin user-id and do the following as vineeth said by getting into personalize option.

Hi Vineet and rani ,

exhausted , in it since 5 pm i found that personalize thingi , IT displays, Personalized page and Portal Content . in the search tab when i searced User Mapping it showed it at two place , here they are

Portal Content -> Content Provided By SAP -> Admin Interface -> Admin Iview Template -> Portal editors -> User Mapping

Portal Content -> Content Provided By SAP -> End User content -> Standard Porta User -> Pages -> User Mapping

i am just nt able to do it, leaving for the day , will be coming tomorrow to try again . thanks a lot guys , will write back , have a happy weekend

couldn go, i saw the logs, they arent helping much

they just say

(R3/BW) Failed to get connection. Please contact your admin. #

neways , leaving now
