.Net Runtime server: localhost:8050 did not respond.

Hi all!

I installed NW2004 SP16 Sneak Preview on a Windows 2003 Enterprise server and tried to install and deploy .NET PDK 2.0. The goal is to get familiar with PDK.NET. The Windows server is running on a VM ware, Visual Studio 2003 is running on the host. NAT has been established for all necessary ports. Deploying from VS 2003 to the portal works.

The .net portal runtime is installed, the .net portal service running under a new account having all the privileges described in the installation guide. Netstat -a shows that all ports are open and connected or listening. Telnet to those ports is successful.

However, the communication between portal and .net runtime is not working. I tried everything but network monitoring, but for now my options are zero.

There are some things I'm wondering if they are correct:

1. Using PDK.NET 2.0, most assemblies but SAP Connector have the version number 1.2.0.0 instead of 2.0.0.0:

2. In the portal server log there is an error message about not finding the loader for the .net classes:

"Cannot find loader sap.com/com.sap.portal.dotnet.framework on the system, but will register reference for furture usage."

and

"Cannot find loader sap.com/com.sap.portal.dotnet.framework.configuration on the system, but will register reference for furture usage."

3. Upon trying the "check server" from the .net configuration page of the portal, the following error message is written to the Server.log:

"Local host is localhost, local port is 8051; remote host is , remote port is .

Problems occured while trying to connect to .NET server"

4. The verification tool from SAP note 800842 gives the following results:

PRT 2.0 installation: SAP Portal Web.dll (Assembly Version) is version 2.0.0.13, should be 2.0.0.12.

SAP PDK for .NET Common Files Installation: Basicly the same for all assemblies: Version 2.0.0.13 is installed, 2.0.0.12 is required.

I had PDK.NET 2.5 installed before, but had to revert to 2.0 because I just have VS 2003 available, not VS 2005.

Does anybody have an idea on what's wrong here?

Hi Juergen,

If SAP Portal Runtime for .NET and NW04 are running on different machines, you need to configure in the portal in .net configuration page to use instead of localhost:8050 -> your_machine_name:8050.

.net runtime and portal engine are running on the same server. Tried machine name instead already, no luck. My best guess is that it's a version conflict...

Hi Juergen,

You have mentioned that you installed version 2.5 before 2.0. Is it possible that you are using com.sap.portal.dotnet.framework.sda and com.sap.portal.dotnet.services.sda from version 2.5 ? If so, clean it and then install com.sap.portal.dotnet.framework.sda and com.sap.portal.dotnet.services.sda from version 2.0.

Hi Rima!

Thx for your answer. After I get aware of the fact that VS 2005 is needed for PDK 2.5, I also undeployed the 2.5 SDAs and deployed the 2.0 ones. Only thing I now can think of is to take a backup of that vm ware image and reinstall the whole .net stuff from a fresh start. I'm going to try that.

More hints and tipps are very welcome.

Hi Juergen,

When you try to "check server" in .net configuration page, do you get the message immediately or it takes several minutes ? If you get the message immediately, try to restart the portal.

Hi Rima!

Message comes almost immediately, but from a freshly started portal. The .net service has been started before the start of the portal engine.

Well, in the portal .net configuration I fiddled a bit with the settings but did put them back to default (localhost:8050 and 8051). The .net portal windows service is running with port 8050 and it's own user with all the privileges described in the installation manual.

Ok, got it. It seems the installation of PDK 2.5, then deinstallation and installation of 2.0 didn't work out. On a portal backup installing pdk 2.0 now runs ok even without redeploying the SDAs.
