Adobe forms with Work Flow

Hi,

I want to know how to configure Adobe forms with the workflow? For that how much workflow knowledge is needed? When can I decide to go for Web AS (java) and Web AS (ABAP).

Hi Sunita,

a common misconception of many people is that a PDF form can replace what a complete workflow has been doing so far in SAP. A PDF form is essentially an additional UI to an SAP backend, which serves (almost exclusively) as a data capture device. The actual business process flow should remain in the backend. That means you will need to know something about SAP's workflow possibilities.

Luckily, Interactive Forms is integrated in several different environments that use workflow and make it easier to set it up:

1. Guided Procedures (in NetWeaver 2004s): Fully Java-based, GP is the process component of the Composite Application Framework (CAF), and thus largely model- and not development-based. You can use an interactive PDF form in a GP for offline steps.

2. Internet Service Request (in mySAP ERP 2004 & 2005): A forms and workflow framework in R/3 and ERP that is used extensively in Manager and Employee Self Services. PDF forms are used online (only). The framework allows a quicker setup of workflow/approval scenarios.

3. The general integration into Web Dynpro, which allows you to build a workflow from scratch (requiring full workflow knowledge) and integrate the forms as steps in the workflow. Using this method, you could also integrate PDF forms into lower-release backends.

Thanks for the information provided in your post, it's great. I have following quesitons related to the pdf forms:

1. In the FAQ section at https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/Adobe->; Interactive Forms Based on Adobe Software-> FAQ, there is mention of "High Volume Printing Scenario". What is high volume printing scenario?

2. Is "high value printing scenario" supported in the web dynpro environment and BSP environment?

3. My client has a requirement to print labels with bar code for their custom transactions in R/3, can we use Adobe Forms with SAP Web Dynpro or BSP's to printlabels with bar code?

4. In this case we will be creating an adobe form which is not interactive,the faq section also specifies (under pricing and licensing information) that usage of print forms (high-volume printing) is included in your respective SAP license. How does this effect our scenario?

Will we have to buy license for the same?

Hi Richa,

1. High-volume printing is what SAP customers so far have been doing with Smart Forms or SAPscript, i.e. create non-interactive output forms such as invoices or payslips.

2. High-volume printing is only supported on the ABAP stack, but - seeing as we are talking about non-interactive print forms - not in Web Dynpro for ABAP and not in BSPs (There is no SAP-shipped integration of Interactive Forms in BSPs.).

3. Bar codes are supported in Interactive Forms, but you shouldn't go through the Web Dynpro or BSP frameworks, which are more oriented towards interactive Web applications.

4. It doesn't. As stated in the FAQs, if you create print forms through transaction SFP (see linked documentation above), it is covered by your SAP license.

Hi Sunita,

If you have good knowledge of Portals Universal Work Flow (UWL), or Business Process Management (BPM), you can also consider these two for workflow configuration.

Can anybody tell me if there is a standard Adobe form to output payslip and Direct Deposit advice for US?

Will F110_INT_AVIS suffice my requirement?
