Integration of SAP Cloud ALM with Nobl9 Observability Tool

Hi Experts,

We are exploring the integration of SAP Cloud ALM with a third-party observability platform called Nobl9. Our goal is to bring in the SAP BTP-IS monitoring data such as SAP BTP-IS/CPI message logs, metrics, health monitoring, success rates, and other relevant information available via the SAP Cloud ALM APIs.

However, Nobl9 does not support direct API calls to SAP Cloud ALM. It can only ingest metrics from platforms like Grafana or Dynatrace.

We’ve identified the following integration options:

1)Grafana Alloy (OpenTelemetry Collector)
Using Grafana Alloy is a viable option. Alloy is essentially Grafana’s branded version of the OpenTelemetry (OTel) collector. Whether we use Alloy or the community OTel collector, the experience should be similar. The main consideration is determining where the collector will be hosted. We can develop a prototype and conduct a demo.

2)SAP ALM Plugin for Grafana
This plugin can be installed in Argus without issue. It enables data visualization and alerting within Grafana. However, data integrated via this plugin cannot be consumed by Nobl9 for SLO creation. Therefore, we would still require Alloy/OTel instrumentation as described in option #1.

Given this limitation, we are excluding the SAP ALM Plugin for Grafana (option 2) from consideration.

We would appreciate your input on how best to send SAP Cloud ALM data to Nobl9 and request a comprehensive overview of all viable connection options.

Systems in scope:

SAP Cloud ALM
Nobl9
Grafana
Dynatrace
Our customer prefers to limit the integration to these systems only.

Additionally, Nobl9 supports data ingestion from Datadog. Since our customer uses SAP BTP-IS Advanced Event Mesh, which includes Datadog, could we leverage this existing datadog setup without incurring additional costs or licensing requirements?

<LI-PRODUCT title="SAP Cloud ALM" id="73554900100800002513"></LI-PRODUCT> @Xavier
thanks,
Jovita

@XavierPicquart

Hi @JoCoutinho

Thank you for your detailed overview.

Please note that Nobl9 currently cannot directly consume SAP Cloud ALM API data. The recommended approach is to use Grafana Alloy (OpenTelemetry Collector) as an integration bridge: SAP Cloud ALM data flows into Grafana, then Alloy forwards the collected metrics to Nobl9 for SLO management.

Using the SAP ALM Plugin for Grafana alone is insufficient, as it does not enable Nobl9 ingestion.

Alternatively, since your SAP BTP-IS Advanced Event Mesh includes Datadog, you may leverage this existing Datadog setup to feed Nobl9, provided it includes the SAP Cloud ALM metrics you require. This can avoid additional licensing or infrastructure.

I recommend prototyping the Grafana Alloy approach or validating the Datadog coverage to identify the best integration path.

I hope this helps you solve the issue. I am happy to help if you have further questions.

If you find my response helpful, kindly accept the answer and award a Kudos to this post. Your support is appreciated.

Best regards

Chris
