sapcontrol StartSystem / StopSystem / RestartSystem do not work on a current host

Good Morning,

I am facing a bug when I try to start/stop/restart a S4 system with sapcontrol.

It used to work but it does not work on one of our current hosts.

My kernel is the following:

kernel release 785
kernel make variant 785_REL
DBMS client library SQLDBC_2.04.126.1551801496
DBSL shared library version 785.03
compiled on Linux GNU SLES-12 x86_64 cc8.2.1 use-pr220209 for linuxx86_64
compiled for 64 BIT
compilation mode UNICODE
compile time Feb 9 2022 21:13:56

Starting & Stopping instances with -function Start/Stop works.

It is just the -function StartSystem, StopSystem & RestartSystem that do not work anymore.

sapcontrol returns ok. The function is logged in history.glf. But then nothing is performed.

What should I do to trace and find the cause of this problem?

Hello Benoît,

When you execute sapcontrol with function "GetSystemInstanceList" on this server, does it list all the instances?

If not, perhaps the "sapmnt" mount is incorrect on this server, which would affect the StartSystem/StopSystem functions too.

About tracing this, you could get a trace from the sapstartsrv process by setting the profile parameter "service/trace = 2". Then, restart the sapstartsrv with the sapcontrol function "RestartService". After simulating the issue, you could analyze the sapstartsrv.log (or provided it here, maybe after masking hostnames, IP addresses, ...).

To disable the trace, remove the parameter and execute the "RestartService" command again.

Sorry for this late answer. I did not received an alert when you replied.

My problem is documented in Note 2787316.

Even after rebooting the host, I could not start SAP.

I had to delete the file sapstart.log & restart the sapstartsrv.
