Question Re: PowerBuilder.NET for web applications in Technology Q&A

The roadmap for PowerBuilder.Net is that it will be EOL'd eventually. Very few customers ever used it.

PowerBuilder development has been taken over by Appeon. They have a product for running PowerBuilder apps from a web browser, you should look into that.

https://www.appeon.com/

Hi,

We have few application which are in PowerBuilder 12.5. There is a proposal to convert the application as a Web application.
Could you please share your thoughts on using PowerBuilder.NET to implement this.

Is PowerBuilder.NET a good option to consider for .NET applications.

What are the pros and cons of PowerBuilder.NET over other Web based solutions. And what are the major limitations.

Do we have a proper road map for PowerBuilder.NET.

Most of our applications were coded in PB 6.0 which were gradually migrated till PB12.5.

How much capable will be PowerBuilder.NET to migrate the code which was built with old (PB 6.0) standards.

Please share your valuable suggestions on this.

I should add that PowerBuilder.Net is not a web solution. It generates WPF desktop apps. Appeon can run PB Classic apps over the web with few if any changes required.

Hi,

I understand that in the new PowerBuilder version the PowerBuilder.NET will no longer be present.

Thinking about the future, will not be a good idea develop a new application at this moment with PowerBuilder.net

Like Roland, I think your best choice right now is Apeon's tool.

https://www.appeon.com/products/appeon-web.html
