Service Tags defined for User Provided Service do not appear in VCAP_SERVICES

Hello SAP CP Cloud Foundry Experts,

as there is an issue with connecting to PostgreSQL on SAP CP Trial, Hyperscaler Option I want to use a User Provided Service to provide the credentials of my PostgreSQL Database running on Azure or AWS. I've defined this User Provided Service in the mta.yaml of my pg-beershop project:

  - name: pg-beershop-external-database
    type: org.cloudfoundry.user-provided-service
    parameters:
      path: ./pg-azure-env.json
      service-tags: ["relational", "database"]

Unfortunately the defined service-tags do not appear in VCAP_SERVICES:

You see the tags array is empty. But the tags are used by SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) to determine the database credentials using the @sap/xsenv module to search for the tag defined in kind parameter of package.json.

did you solve this challenge? We are also trying to use a user-provided service to connect CAP to a PostgreSQL database, but it looks like there is no way to set tags on user-provided services.

I figured out that I was running a quite old Cloud Foundry CLI version. Recent versions support setting tags for user-defined services via cf create-user-provided-service my-db-mine -t "list, of, tags".

no, I did not try to create the user-provided service via mta.yaml yet. I'm still struggling to get my CAP application to read PostgreSQL credentials from the user-defined service... 😉

I confirm the problem.
I'm trying to create user-provided-service which should be a proxy to the event-mesh service from another subaccount.

My application can't pick this user-provided-service as event-mesh service based on service-name only.
It needs that user-provided-service has tags: ["enterprise-messaging"] set on it.

I know that I can add tags on command line by using "cf" command. But to do it automatically I should write some script.

Another way is to define custom tags in mta.yaml file.

But, as Mr. Wolf already wrote, it doesn't work on user-provided-service's.
For ex: setting tags on 'normal' service works

    service-tags: ["custom-tag-B"]

But for user-defined doesn't:

Seems that this has been fixed in the meanwhile - tested with mbt@1.2.21.

The tags are correctly returned when reading VCAP_SERVICES.

BTW, binding user-provided services using the cds bind command is supported with @sap/cds-dk@6.5.0.
