Question Re: Cloud Portal plugin problem in Technology Q&A

Hi Gregor

Thanks a lot for your input.

I have a few questions for you:

1. What is the value of the property "type" in the object "sap.app" in your manifest.json file ?

2. Does your manifest file include the object "sap.flp" ?

3. Which version of SAPUI5 do you use for the Cloud Portal Site (launchpad) you are using ?

4. Did you add the application via the "App Resource" finder when configuring the App ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best regards,

Søren Hansen

Cloud Portal plugin problem

Hi Experts.

I have previously used the 'SAP Fiori Launchpad Plugin' template in the cloud Web IDE for creating a Cloud Portal (Fiori) Plugin, and this worked perfectly to my needs. I used this to customize system messages to be shown in the launchpad.

Recently I have been experiencing problems when registering this plugin, as SAP apparently has changed the way plugins are deployed to SCP, and registered in the Portal.

I did open a ticket to SAP, and was told that the only way SAP supports Portal Plugins are described here (this apparently implies that the mentioned template is no longer supported):

https://help.sap.com/viewer/8422cb487c2146999a2a7dab9cc85cf7/Cloud/en-US/87764543e31247b5b471c06e3f6da6fc.html

My Problem:

I have followed the guide, but cannot register my plugin in the Portal as a Shell Plugin. It will only allow me to register it as a normal SAPUI5 application.

My Component.js file is very simple:

(function () {
    "use strict";
    jQuery.sap.declare("dk.sorenviggo.test.flp.plugin.test001.Component");
    jQuery.sap.require("sap.ui.core.UIComponent");

    sap.ui.core.UIComponent.extend("dk.sorenviggo.test.flp.plugin.test001.Component", {
        // use inline declaration instead of component.json to save 1 round trip
        metadata : {
            "manifest": "json"
        },
        createContent : function () {
		sap.m.MessageBox.alert("Hello");
        }
    });
}());

After deployment of the application, and I want to register the plugin in the portal, I get the following problem.

The App Type is greyed out and I cannot select the type 'Shell Plugin'.

Two things strikes me regarding the manifest file.

1. The value of "type" under "sap.app" is now "application", which was "component" in the old template.

2. In the old template a section "sap.flp" was added with "type" set to the value "plugin".

Regarding point 1, I did try to change this value to "component", but then the app no longer show up in the list of App Resources when configuring the app in the portal.

Regarding point 2, I also tried to add this, but then I could no longer register the app in the portal (after selecting the app, the following busy screen never ended being busy).

Can anybody please help me in what I am missing ?

Thanks,

Hi Søren,

I'm also using the SAP CP Portal Service Launchpad at several customers. But I can't replicate your issue. When I switch to edit mode for an existing Plugin I can still change the app type. Also when I create a new app I can do the selection. Have you checked if there are any errors in the console or network tab of the developer tools when you do this steps?

You're also seen the post from c3d1947136cd4c748a7aa794001af496 on Fiori Launchpad Plugin / Extension with HeaderItem disappears – Solution and configuration options?

Best regards
Gregor

Hi Søren,

In order to overcome your issue please do the following without selecting your app from the "App Resource":

1. create new app

2. Select App Type "Shell Plugin"

3. Set manually the fields:

component url: /

SAPUI5 component: dk.sorenviggo.test.flp.plugin.test001.FLPMessagePluginNew

HTML5 app name: flpmessagepluginnew

4. Save

Best regards,

Yael - Scrum Master of Cloud Portal Dev team

All.

SAP has finally agreed that the above mentioned problem is indeed a bug.

I have written a separate blog about my findings regarding Portal Plugins, which you can read here: https://blogs.sap.com/2019/09/12/scp-portal-plugin-display-system-messages-in-fiori-cloud-launchpad/

Best regards,

Søren Hansen
