licensing - Rapid Data Migration and Data Services

My client has got license for SAP BO Data Services 4.2 . For migration purpose, if we chose to use Rapid Data Migration solution; will separate license be required? Or RDM is covered in BODS 4.2 license?

Please help!

It depends on the type of license, some do include DM, some don't.

Check with local SAP AM to see what applies.

A special license will be required if you want to use SAP Data Services and the Rapid Data Migration package for the migration tasks only.

Raise a ticket with the SAP Licensing team and they will answer your questions.

My name is Frank Densborn, I'm with SAP and I'm the Product Owner of the Rapid Data Migration package. I know the licensing topic always can be confusing. So here is the official answer:

Rapid Data Migration is migration content in form of Jobs and Data Flows for SAP Data Services. This is delivered as *.atl files. This content comes at no extra cost, so basically is free of charge. However, of course you are required to have a valid product license of the SAP Data Services product. There is no specific license necessary for the content but the standard DS license.

Long story short: Every SAP Data Services license is fine. You can just download the content from the links below and deploying it in your DS instance by creating a new repository. It is as easy as that.

So there is no special license required. However, there might be special offerings for customers who just want to use it for a one-time migration (smaller license). Also, there are different DS licenses regarding the Data Quality capabilities of the tool. The Rapid Data Migration content will work with all of these. It's just about limitation with functionality in case of limitations with the license.

Nitesh, you and your client will be fine. The license he holds is perfectly fine as it allows to fully use DS as far as I understand. Nothing special needed for Rapid Data Migration. In case you want to make use of the additional reporting content that comes in form of WebI reports and is delivered as a *.lcmbiar file, the client also needs to have the BusinessObjects BI Platform license - but this part is completely optional.
