Hi,

Whenever you want to make a communication between two different systems like Mainframes to SAP, you can use an integration tool like XI which acts as a middleware between Mainframes and XI. The role of XI here is to get the data from Mainframes and convert it to a format which can be understand by SAP and forward the same to the SAP and viceversa.

Rgds,

Jothivel.

Message was edited by: Jothivel Sundaram

SAP Netweaver Exchange infrastructure will be useful for your scenario because,

Multiple SAP and Non SAP systems and mainframe systems can be closely integrated to create an agile IT environment using SAP Netweaver Exchange infrastructure.

Are you aware of the SAP integration solution by Software AG? They offer mainframe integration with SAP - either R/3 or XI.

See <a href="http://www2.softwareag.com/Corporate/Solutions/integration/legacy_integration/sap/default.asp">Legacy mainframe integration</a>.

Best regards,

Juergen

hello jothivel,

IMHO your statement is not true as a general rule. There is a little bit of too much a hype or even fanaticism around XI at the moment.

If you have a single Mainframe system and a single SAP installation and if you have a single integration task, a simple point-to-point integration using traditional communication mechanisms like EDI or RFC or more modern ones like web services would surely be sufficient whereas setting up a complex (often ressource-intensive)integration middleware (and aquiring the needed skills to operate and customize it) just for this task is an overkill.

In reality not every customer faces a landscape with numerous systems to integrate and partners to collaborate but has simple integration challenges concerning two systems and limited information to exchange.

Of course, if, for whatever reason, you already have a middleware like XI in place, it makes sense to use it for every additional integration task, be it a mainframe or desktop to exchange data with.

regards,

anton

Hi Anton,

I agree with your point. Because this question was already answered by Mr.Santhosh, I just specified the role of XI. So that he can have an fair idea about XI.

Rgds,

Jothivel.
