Not able to save formula

Hi Experts,

I have done the grouping in specified order, once i save & close the formula and refresh the window it works but when i close the report and reopen, it gives me the below error and again i have to do the changes in the formula . i tried so many times but it did not work.

any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

Are you working on a report which on some other machine/server thru network?

If so, try with a local copy of the report and check whether the value is getting saved first.

If it's already on local machine, are you trying with same selection criteria when the report is failed? or is there any change in selection criteria?

Thanks Raghavendra for the response ,

am working on a remote machine on cloud , i did the same as you said i copied the report to my local machine and then i tried but did not work and the selection criteria is same.

one more thing i forgot to mention in my post that whenever i try to edit the group in specified order , crystal report get shutdown automatically without popping any error with in 1 sec on both machines i.e. my local and Cloud machine.

Hi,

Yes, the reason why I asked whether you are working on remote copy of the report was related to check whether there is any disconnection while you work on the report. So, as per your confirmation, the report is getting closed while you are editing the group. That means changes you are doing at group level are not getting saved.

Could you check whether you get any error if you do "Check Dependencies.." from Reports tab?

If that doesn't help, check back the formula you were editing whether there is any error with whatever the formula content already exists.

Also, could you explain more on what you mean by editing the group in specified order?

Yes , i am getting the error at grouping level.

on doing the Check dependencies i get the below error

Formulas: @Group #1 Order - This field name is not known.

Like i told you whenever i reopen the report and refresh the report with the same selection criteria i get the above error and then the formula window get open showing the cause of error

below is the issue which i get each time on reopen

if IsNull ({vwaSales.ItemCode})

then 1

else if { .ItemCode} = "DDFFCC00550"

then -27

else if { .ItemCode} = "DDFFCC00656"

then -26

else 1

then i amend the formula like below

if IsNull ({vwaSales.ItemCode})

then 1

else if {vwaSales .ItemCode} = "DDFFCC00550"

then -27

else if { vwaSales.ItemCode} = "DDFFCC00656"

then -26

else 1

and it works fine but on reopening of report i get to the same issue

if IsNull ({vwaSales.ItemCode})

then 1

else if { .ItemCode} = "DDFFCC00550"

then -27

else if { .ItemCode} = "DDFFCC00656"

then -26

else 1

and Specified grouping means i have done the grouping only for some items group.

i you need any further clarification pls let me know.

Hi,

So, as you can see, the group formula is having issue.

I suggest you remove that group and modify the formula used for that group as required and save it.

Then you recreate the group using that formula and save the report.

am trying the same , but am wondering it works when i do changes but on re opening it get disappears. it means crystal is not saving that formula , what can be the cause of this issue?? , because crystal saves the formula even when there are errors in the formula.

Hi,

I am not too sure, but what I feel is, the formula is failing to save because it's used for grouping.

May be you can check that by using a different field for that group and try to save the changed formula content and then can try using it for grouping again.

Hi Raghavendra ,

the issue is resolved now , i deleted the old group and created a new Group with same field and specified Order formulas and it worked.

but still am wondering what can be the cause of that issue.

Hi,

The only reason I can think of is because the formula is used for grouping.

If the formula is just for display of some calculated data and is with some error, as you said in one of your posts, it might have got saved with some warning message when you try to save it. But will throw error when you try to run the report.
