How to show both Key and Text in Prompt LOV based on variable from BW query BO 4.0 SP6 BICS

Hi,

Does BO 4.0 SP6 Web Intelligence support showing both "Key & Text" or "Text & Key" in the Prompt LOV coming from a BEx Variable?

If yes, how is it done? Setting this property on the characteristic and in the query doesn't work. The change can be seen in the rsrt transaction, but not in WEBI prompt LOV.

Are there any special conditions/restrictions/prerequisites that need to be considered in order for it to work?

If it is not possible/supported, what workarounds exist (data is stored in BW)?

This is a very important requirement for us, to be able to display both text and key in a WebI prompt.

thanks for the quick reply.

After reading the suggested thread: to display the keys we can either:

hover with the mouse over a value in the LOV prompt window - we can see one key at once, only for the one value we are hovering over
or click on the yellow key icon in the prompt window: this will display the key for each value at the end of the value resulting in something like "text (key)" display

Do you know whether it is possible to have the keys displayed by default, without having the user click on this yellow key icon first and every time for each prompt?

So, it seems like it is possible to display the keys but only in the format: "text (key)" and not "(key) text"?

For example if I open a report (webi document), the prompt window appears with 5 BEx variables prompting the user to select some values, the requirement would be: the first 2 prompts display the text, the next 2 prompts display "text (key)" by default without the user having to do anything and the last 5th prompt displays in the "(key) text" display format.

So basically: currently the WEBI prompts based on BEx Variables ignore the display as "text & key" setting both at the characteristic and at the query level, right? Instead WEBI offers a way of showing the keys, but this feature is a pure WEBI only feature, it is not consuming the characteristic and query settings regarding how the values should be displayed and sorted in the prompts?

Hi David,

your understanding is correct, that setting is not surfaced in web intelligence.

Basically, you will have to educate the users on that button, it is not possible to surface the corresponding setting from BEx that way.

yes it does.

In case you are using a Universe you will get both values automatically.

in case you are using a BEx Query directly, you can switch in the prompting UI between the key and text

Why are you then indicating that the setting is not surfaced in Web Intelligence and point to a document that looks after the support in the reports ?

Because your presentation gives a great overview of the supported settings.

Is there any other possibility apart from educating the users on the usage of the "display key" button?

Or maybe I am simply misunderstanding the requirement (@David ?).

but the slides are on report design and the items mentioned on key / text refers to the report design, not the prompting UI

Hi Victor,

I believe you understand my requirement correctly:

The requirement: display both key and text in the prompt UI when using a BEx Query (all data is only available in SAP BW only) without having the user to click on a button in each prompt to display the keys and also having the possibility to display it in the order first key and then text.

There are 2 places where I can set the display to "Key and Text" or "Text and Key": on the characteristic in BW, in the BEx Query - none of these settings is surfaced in Web Intelligence Prompt UI for a BEx Variable prompt. That is what I experience and what I think you meant by your statement "that setting is not surfaced in web intelligence". The WebI Prompt UI has a button instead, which can be used to display the keys at the end of the displayed LOVs.

I have not worked with Universes before/at all, but I believe it is not an option in my scenario (BW, BICS, BEx variables/queries) to create a solution to display both "key and text" (in this order) in the Prompt UI.

Hello David,

let me clarify a couple of items:

- the setting in the BEx query where you decide to show the key or the text is leveraged by the Analysis products, but not by Web Intelligence. Web Intelligence is a reporting client - not an analytical client, so in case you would like to see the key or text or both in the report, then you need to design the report in that way.

- The setting in the BEx query is also for the report, it doesn't impact the prompting / variable UI.

Although we can toggle the Key visibility by using the "key" icon/button on the UI, clicking the column heading to sort the data always sorts by the key value, not the text. Is there ability to control this sort by text or by key?

Hi David,

You can try the following - in transaction RSA1 go to the desired infoobject and doubleclick on it.

In the next screen go to the tab "Business Explorer".

If you change here the Value for the field "Display" from (i assume in your case either "Key" or ""Key and Text") to either "Text" or "Text and Key" - you will see that the sort order in WebI is altered.

The functionality in WebI UI is still the same, but the sort order has changed. I hope this help you out for the sort issue.

Hi,

just a side note: this sorting by clicking on the column heading is not available in the WEB mode of Web Intelligence (it is available only in Rich Internet Application and Desktop mode).

I'm not aware about an ability to control this sort by text instead of key. But would be helpful if it would be possible, but would be even more helpful if it would be possible in the WEB mode too.
