Sybase administration GUI

Hi guys,

recently ive installed a new ERP 6.0 landscape with Sybase ASE and in both instances i was able to manage the database using the scjview executable, usually located under X:\sybase\SID\Shared\Sybase Central 6.0.0\win64 path.
Now if i try to install the latest Sybase version the executable seems missing, even if the path still exist.

Probably is a SAP choice, i dont understand the meaning (and worse i dont find any note/documentation regarding this change) but im just wondering which is the grapich tool i have to use to manage the database.
I tried to download Sybase Control Center (3.2.5) but im stucked after a few steps (not able to connect the database using sa/sapsa user).
Am i using the correct tool? Is there any other way? Administration is command line only?

Hi Maurizio,

Sybase control center is the correct tool.

Apart from that for Administration purpose you may configure dbacockpit.

Another alternative is to use command line options available with sybase ase.

thanks for your reply, now i know that i dont wasting my time trying to use SCC.

I configured dbacockpit transaction but i cannot use it if SAP is down, i was looking for a more powerful tool...

About SCC, i've a few questions:

- which is the correct version to use? 3.2.5 is ok?

- im trying to connect my DB (15.0.7.41) using 4901 TCP port, is that correct?

- which is the right user to complete SCC DB Authentication? I tried to use sa and sapsa without any result

- Is there any recent documentation regarding this tool?

Please verify whether you have downloaded the DVD from the path defined below from SAP site.

Installations and Updates -> Sybase Products -> SYBASE ASE -> SYBASE ASE 15.7 -> Installation -> Sybase Control Center 3.2.x

Hi Deepak,

we have downloaded SCC and installed.

I've configured the connection to the Sybase ASE with this parameter:

ASE Host name --> SAP Server hostname
ASE port --> 4901
User --> sa (it was unlocked by me)
Passsword --> sa password

When I try to authenticate SCC, the process sccservice.exe is running with high CPU load and memory process is increasing.

Is there something wrong in SCC configuration ?

Hi Maurizio,

Could you try connecting with these parameters

ASE Host name --> SAP Server hostname
ASE port --> 4901
User --> sapsa
Passsword --> sapsa password

Also have you tried login with sccadmin as shared in the urls above.

Do you know some configuration that have to be made in SCC or in ASE server for the connection ?

Can ASE Server installed by sapinst be connected to SCC ?

You can also isql.

e.g.

Above parameters could not provide inputs for login

Could you try this method

http://<scc-hostname>:8282/scc

username: sccadmin

password: < Specified during installation of Sybase Centrol control>

Hi,

I would like to be more clear in my question.

I've installed a SAP System (Netweaver 7.31) based on windows /Sybase ASE (last version of DVD installation available in SAP Market Place).

One year ago in the installation of ASE made by sapinst there was a graphical tool (scjview) not available in the last installation DVD.

It seems SCC (Sybase control center) was the universal product to manage Sybase database (ASE, IQ, etc).

I've downloaded and installed successfully this software from market place (SCC version for ASE server).

After connection with user "sccadmin" and "blank password" with success, I've had to register the connection to the ASE database of my SAP Netweaver.

Have you tried this type of graphic console ?

Why ASE parameters indicated above are not working ?

DBACockpit from SAP work well and also ISQL from command; I've only understand if it is possible to use a graphical tool to manage my ASE db.

Hello Maurizio

You can install Sybase Control Center from Sybase ASE installation media.

1. Run setup

2. Choose "Custom" Install

3. Select only Sybase Control Center

4. Define your SCC Administrator Password

5. Log on to SCC with user : sccadmin and your defined password.

6. Add resource (Sybase ASE) with user sapsa

I understand that you want a tool you are used to, to manage installed instances and operate the RDBMS. I guess you are familiar with Sybase Central already and hardly want to miss any of it's powerfull features.

For a typical up to date SAP installation EBF for the ASE v15 plugin would be EBF21169 for Windows and EBF21167 for Linux (64-Bit)

This can be setup staright away on the server running the RDBMS. If you need to put it on a central management host, make sure to install a limited developer version (free developer edition from SCN with no licensing issues) on that host before you try to install the Sybase Central plugin.

Sybase Central ASE plug-in is no longer included in the Adaptive Server installation image. Use Sybase Control Center 3.2.7 to manage your Adaptive 15.7 ESD#2 servers.
Sybase no longer maintains Sybase Central. However, if required, you can download Sybase Central Plug-ins by going to the http://www.sybase.com/downloads site, then clicking on Maintenance Releases and Bug Fixes (EFBs).

Good luck in finding the download, while it might have vanished meanwhile to "motivate" SAP Basis guys to use dbacokpit or SCC !

I personally hate both for certain limitations and a highly complicated install and setup procedure compared to Sybase Central...
