Error while sending mail from SAP???

Hello Friends,

We are getting fallowing fallowing error while sending mail from SAP.

Message cannot be transferred to node SMTP due to connection error (final)

Message no. XS816

Diagnosis

Due to a technical fault, the system could not set up a connection to the RFC destination smtp.caribbean-airlines.com: 25. Therefore, the message could not be transferred to node SMTP.

System Response

The system was unable to transfer the message.

Additional information of the node used (in the system language of the node):
Check port and mail server for SMTP nodes

Procedure

Check the connection from SAP system to node SMTP. Perhaps the node is not assigned to the correct RFC destination. If so, correct this in Customizing.
Otherwise use RFC destination management to check the RFC connection to destination smtp.caribbean-airlines.com: 25.
If R/3 is in productive operation, it is advisable to reroute provisionally to another node.
You should therefore notify your system administrator.

we have configured SMTP in our system then tryed to send a mail, it throws an error like above.

Please help me to solve this error.

Hi,

Please go through the below link and check whether you have followed all the steps correclty.

As well as make sure that your email server ( exchange server ) is configured to accept mails from your SAP system.. Speak with your exchange administrator in case if you are facing any relaying issue

This is a very common message.

Check that you can reach port 25 and that the IP address of your SAP system is populated on the relay agent of the SMTP Server.

Hi Farkath,

Assuming this is a new connection that has not been working before:

1. from the SAP server see if you can telnet to the smtp server on port 25

2. Check out transaction SOST as that gives more information on problems and allows you to re-try emails, etc.

ping the IP from the server

if the ping successful

Then

telnet IP 25

Kindly check and provide the status

telnet is failed.

C:\Documents and Settings\tstadm.SAP2TSTSRV>telnet 25

Connecting To 25...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed.

What i have to do for this.

Nope... you need to telnet he host+port of your SMTP server from the SAP host, this is a very basic check.

telnet <SMTP_Host> <port>

Connecting To 172.20.0.154...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed.

for this what i have to do?? i will check with my IT team.

Port 25 is not open , it is a firewall issue.

Hello

Configuring the SMTP settings in SAP will not be sufficient.

You need to also configure the relay settings at the mail server side.

You probably need to ask the Mail server admin to do this.

Hello Reagan Benjamin,

telnet <host of SMTP> 25 is connecting successfully, and now, I can able to send mail which is in the same domain but it getting failure when with the external mail address. please see below.

If I tried for other mail address means, No delivery to sxxxx ana.b@xxxsystems.com, invalid

recipient address..

What I have to do to sent the mail to external mail addresses. please help me to solve this issue.

Can you check the following in SOST:

Let us know what yours says.

2. Also Check Settings > Default Domain to ensure your domain is set correctly

Hello Graham,

SCOT setting are fine like you shown on the above screen short. also my domain is correct.

but still mails are not sent successfully to external mail addresses. please find the below trace screen short for successful and failure mails.

failure.

On the above screen shorts we can see SMTP return Code 550 5.4.1 Relay access denied in failure. please help me to grand access to Relay for SMTP.

Is this reason? or any other thing please help me to solve this issue if you have any idea about this...

Hi Farkathulla,

You are getting the above error because smtp server is not configured properly.

It is not allowing to send the mail to external.

You can involve the unix team in this case and they will do the needful work.

In SCOT ->SMTP nodes-> add new address like @xxxsystems.com in INT list

Now try to resend the the email again .

You did not read the info i sent you before..

SAP does not have the ability to use username/password authentication against your SMTP Server, because of that you need to add the IP Address of your SAP system to the "Relay Agent" of your SMTP Server.

You need to get your Exchange colleagues to do that for you.

telnet port is connecting successful, please find the screen short,

Mail is successfully send to same domain(a.com) mail addresses like xxx@a.com, if I send to xxx@b.com means it getting failed.

I will check with my exchange team.

If you send mails to the same domain registered in SAP then no authentication is required. If the mails going outside the domain then you need the "Relay" in place so the outgoing mails from SAP are trusted by the SMTP Server

Have you considered checking SMTP server with a mail administrator.

Like I have mentioned before the relay settings play an important role in the transmission of the e-mails from SAP.
