Question Re: Scorecard - conditional formatting not seeing Bex defined exceptions in Technology Q&A

I have tried this on both Icons and Font Color, as the logic is the same, and it doesn't work in either case:

Nothing happens. I think DS can see that the exceptions exist but can't read their definitions, and, therefore, can't apply the formatting. I'm adding this to the list of bugs 🙂

Scorecard - conditional formatting not seeing Bex defined exceptions

I can't find any answered question or blog that actually explain in simple terms how to set up conditional formatting in the scorecard. I have been struggling for hours with, what seems to me, a pretty simple conditional formatting based on one exception set up in a Bex query. I have read all blog entries by Karol Kalisz so I know that in order to use exceptions, they need to be defined in at BW query level.

So, my Bex query definition has Debt value measure and a simple exception Bad 1 for Debt values > 2000. I want to highlight those values in my scorecard and/or add a relevant icon.

I display Debt values in the rows of my Scorecard:

Now, where do I set up my exceptions?

From what I have read in blogs and other questions I should be able to see drop downs in the Conditional Values? It says, 1 of 9 conditions defined, but I am not seeing any. Or, perhaps, I should see a dropdown of my conditions in the Icon's area? But it's all empty. I can't find my Debt > 2000 exception anywhere? How do I use it?

I have tried different approaches. And using binding type Conditional Format Value, I don't get to see my exceptions, or generic 1-9 exceptions either:

Very confused 😞 Please can you guide me to some blog that explains how to set this all up from start to finish. The only link that I found in another thread wasn't working:

https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/3914774

Update. I have found the above-mentioned blog, but it does not have an explanation how conditional formatting for Colomn 3 is set up:

https://blogs.sap.com/2015/12/29/introduction-to-sap-design-studio-scorecard-component-part-2/comment-page-1/#comment-359810
When I go to Cell Font Color and bind it with Conditional Format Value I still I don't see any conditions in the dropdown:

I am definitely selecting measure for which the exception exists in BW.

Following Karol's blog https://blogs.sap.com/2016/04/18/scorecard-step-by-step-to-nice-visualization-conditional-format/ looks like you need to identify the BEx values 1-9

Usually 1 is "Good"

Usually 7-9 is "Bad"

See below

Thanks Tammy,

The problem is, I think, that Karol has set up his exceptions and called them Conditional Format for Result, Conditional Format for Members and he can see them in the dropdown. I don't. I don't see my conditions anywhere. I can see from your screenshot that you have a condition OverBudget. I don't see anything there. I will keep trying. Thanks!

A.

I think I am getting closer to solving this mystery. I have added another exception into my Bex query, so I have three in total now. What I can see in the dropdown now is this:

If you look closely, there are three empty lines there, as in three exceptions! There used to be two empty lines (when I only had two exceptions). So Design Studio is "seeing" my exceptions, but not really seeing them 😄 Another bug, I guess...

I have "selected" the second empty line which is the exception that I want and applied formatting, but still nothing is happening:

finally i have found the solution. You need to reset the initial view of the datasource with the bex query using exceptions.
