Question Re: BODS in Technology Q&A

>Store data like MDM.

DS does not store Data. It is an ETL tool which can be used to extract, transform and load to a target. Yes, to an extend, some temporary storage is possible while the data load executes.

>transforms data like MDM (validations, matching strategies) and PI (predefined functions during mapping data).

Of course. Simple to complex transformations are possible.

>generate Reports like BW reporting capability.

DI / DS is not a reporting tool.

>connect to all SAP and Non SAP systems. If SAP communication then will it use IDOC communication or should we use PI to connect to it??

You do not require PI to connect SAP systems to DI. IDoc connectivity is one method

>If non Sap communication, i believe it should be like, File generated by 3rd party system and BODS extracts that file.

Not necessarily. DI can connect to Databases. applications, adapters etc through a concept called Datastore.

Regards,

Suneer

Hi rajeshadiraju,

BODS Is an extraction, tranformation, integration and loading tool ,It is almost similar to SAP BI.

Regarding the features aspects BODS Has more capability of extracting a data from more number

of source system. It holds a single GUI called Designer where the entire process of ETL Can be done

as well as it has a capability for cleansing data (With the help of Data quality Management) .And the

processing time is very less compared to all other ETL Tool. It has more features in terms of transformation

almost 21 transformations are available

One of the important feature is the Rapid Mart( similar to Business content in BI) Where ready made RapidMarts

are available and can be implemented within few weeks

Thanks

Fasi

BODS is used for Data Integration and Data Quality purposes. It is an ETL solution for Data Migration, Data Warehousing and for Cleansing the Enterprise data.

BW and PI does not seem to have the DQ functionality.

PI is an EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) solution mostly event driven, specifically meant for Business Process Integration and the data handled at a time is of small pay loads (messages).

BW and DS are for ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Loading), meant for handling large / bulk data.

Between DS and PI, there are gray areas like real-time processing, basic transformations etc.

BW is a SAP NW solution for warehousing and reporting above SAP ERP system, where as DS can easily handle SAP and non SAP source / target systems.

Regards,

Suneer

(Used for ETL)

If it is reporting specific application that you are looking for - you have Crystal reports, Dashboards, Web Intelligence etc. All these are Business Objects products and cater to different reporting needs. These solutions will generate reports out of databases / local data sources.

BODS is a ETL tool like Informatica etc, which is used to extract, transform and load data to an output file or table.

For example you have a set of legacy system data in mainframe and your company is switching to ERP platforms. You need to convert all the legacy system data into ERP readable format using BODS.

Arun
