Variable selection defaults?

Hi experts,

I am trying to set the defaults displayed for values on a variable in a Bex report.

In Query designer, for the variable on the characteristic I went to the 'User Settings' button and under the 'Value restrictions' tab, 'No of displayed values' section tried both 'All Values' and later with '3500' in the 'Maximum number of values displayed'. In both cases, the Query still shows the default Maximum Records '1000' when we try to enter a value from the selection screen.

In addition to changing the default 'max # of records' displayed, I would also like to change the default sort order to be descending, but I don't see any place to do this?

Hi,

Selector will show maximum of 1000. If there is more than 1000 values, then you have to go for search.

default is 1000 set up by SAP.. for asceding order or decending order, its in the query ut self you can choose variable order from right properties.. if you are using f4 .u can set it up in the infoobject to use cube or master data and try at infoobject level.

Thanks for the feedback. I took a look again, but in the properties on the right side, the variable order will control in which order all the variables will be listed on the selection screen. In the InfoObject properties, the sort order will control how the report output will sort values for the characteristic.

What the user has requested is when the hit the search button for a characteristic on the selection screen, that the selection list that is presented for them to choose values from be sorted in descending order by default. It is possible once the selection screen is presented to manually increase the number of values to > 1000 and also to change the sort order to descending; we are just looking for a way to make that the default?

k try this in yoru query for e.g i am using 0project

my variable is 0project_sel

from my free chracrerstics or wherever you have it

right click on main infoobject and click restrict

then move the variable you are searching on to the right.. highlight the variable on right ..click on the mans face next to the wrench icon on top

in 2nd tab chnage it to 2000 maximum number of values displayed..

i am not sure how to set it up te f4 help as desencing.. you will have to write some user exit on variable when called to read the master data or data in query as desending.. you can use istep 2.. you could try or last resot open a note with sap saying it wont shwo desending and they would help you.

thanks again for your time. For the max # of values displayed, that is what I mentioned trying in my original question. In our system, the setting doesn't appear to have any effect as the number of values always stays at 1000.

I opened a ticket with SAP for this issue as well as the sort order - will see what they recommend.

Update: info from SAP Support:

A final update: SAP Support confirmed the 1000 value default setting cannot be modified. The users can increase the limit and resubmit the search request to get more values if required.

Sorry, I don't recall ever getting a final answer on that one. It was a few years ago now, but I took a look at my old notes and our system and it appears we never applied a change to do this.
