Question Re: Web Dispatcher Load Balancing with Java Instances in Technology Q&A

Vamshi,

Yes we created a group on java side in NWA. But we can not see that group in web dispatcher We do not allow http access to java side, only https, so perhaps this is why the group information is not getting to webdispatcher. It would be good to understand if that is the issue. Is there a workaround or am i limited to use the !J2EE group.

Web Dispatcher Load Balancing with Java Instances

We are setting up as only https access to webdispatcher and portal. So I have https requests coming into the web dispatcher and am using https to go to the EP message server. This is working and our current set up is doing load balancing using the automatic !J2EE group. This however includes all servers and I would like to have the option to include or exclude certain servers for maintenance reasons. Is there someway to do this?

I've read and tried to follow the help screens for setting up load balancing. In particular, I've followed the help at:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/45/3dbe11a82b6bf1e10000000a1553f6/content.htm

I followed the above link, set up the login group in NWA, updated the http provider properties. but still do not see any additional groups in webadmin of webdispatcher. Is it requrired to do the alias's as described? I don't want all the urls to have to change. to include ~groupname. I have configured

GroupInfoRequest property and wdisp/J2EE/group_info_location as /J2EE/icr_groups

UrlMapRequest property and wdisp/J2EE/url_map_location as /J2EE/icr_urlprefix

Is that correct? One concern is on another help page I read it can only use !J2EE since i am doing ssl re-encript. Is this right? Here is the link http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/58/d0643e4cce3f7ce10000000a114084/content.htm

see near the botom...

Special Case: HTTPS Re-encryption

If the SAP Web dispatcher is to forward the request (HTTP or HTTPS, not end-to-end) SSL-encrypted (parameter wdisp/ssl_encrypt, see SAP Web Dispatcher and SSL), it has to select !DIAGS or !J2EES as the internal group. Otherwise the algorithm runs the same way.

So any guidance on the best way to do load balancing, mainly to have control over instances for maintenance?

Thanks, Pat

HTTP ports are disable on the portal.

Trying to see if can only manage within the !J2EE group, or if we can somehow define our own. Has anyone created their own groups?
