Hi,

We are in the process of sizing the WPs including DIA, BTC, UPD, and SPO. Is there any standard SAP note which guide us calculating the WPs sizing on the instance?

Hi,

You can check SAP Note 39412 - How many work processes should be configured?.

For spool work process, you can check SAP Note 108799 - How many spool work processes for each instance?

Also, check SAP note 9942.

Hi,

The number of work processes in a SAP system depends on the amount of RAM/physical memory available.

As per the note 39412, the minimum number of work process for a SAP system is as listed below,

For a central system: 5 DIA, 1 UPD, 0 UP2, 1 BTC, 1 ENQ, 1 SPO

For a dialog server: 2 DIA, 0 UPD, 0 UP2, 0 BTC, 0 ENQ, 0 SPO

The general thumb rule for WP is,

No.of Dialog WPs=RAM Size(MB)/250. and No.of Background Wps=RAM Size(MB)/750.

Hi Varadhu,

As per the thumb rule "No.of Dialog WPs=RAM Size(MB)/250. and No.of Background Wps=RAM Size(MB)/750.", it gives max DIA, and BTC processes for current memory configuration right.

Did you follow any doc for thumb rule or its just based on experience?

Hi Kris,

I have some calculation for wps, just look at.

No. of DIA= RAM/256(Min 2, Max 18)

No. of UPD= RAM/768(Min 1, Max 6)

No. of UPD2= RAM/1024(Min 1, Max 3)

No. of BGD= RAM/1024(Min 2, Max 3)

No. of ENQ= 1

No. of SPO= 1

Hi,

Yes, the calculation gives you the maximum WP's for ur configuration. I remember I got this from a SAP course material/SAP Note but I don't remember the name of that, sorry.

I think this clarifies ur doubts on WP calculation.

Hi All,

I have question.

While working on an implementation I have learnt that the standard for Rules of Dialog work process distribution is that it should be equal to = {(total WP/2)+ 1}.

+i.e. Dialog WP={(total WP/2) 1}

Can anybody tell me is this is a SAP standard, and where I may find the documentation for this?
