Barcode Scanning

Hi Experts,

We are going to start developing an application which will be JSP based one. This application will be using the MDK APIs. The application deals with reading data from barcode scanner.

The development is being done on MI 7.1.

Now I have no idea on barcode scanning stuff.

Can anybody please point me to right source on how to go for barcode scanning development. Please remember that it is JSP application. Application is being developed on JSP because because they want to run this application alongwith another application which is JSP based.

Hello Gopal,

You can refer to note 1057759 (Delivered Drivers for Peripherals in SAP DOE) which list you all the supported barcode scanners for SAP Netweaver Mobile 7.1. Please refer to attachments (provided in this note 1057759) starting with PISC (for barcode scanners).

Thanks for response. That will be really helpful. But the problem with me right now is where to start? I am completely clueless on this barcode scanning development area. I need an explanation or something which can be used as base to start my development.

I am referring to help.sap.com through link http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwmobile71/helpdata/en/8F/0B674240449C60E10000000A1550B0/frameset.htm. Hope it helps me to come out of uncertainity. If there is any other material which I can be pointed to, it will be great.

It will give you an idea about how to use those PIOS API for barcode scanner.

Hi Ruchi,

The SAP note and attachment you pointed to was great. But I want clarification on one aspect. In one of the PISC attachment, Minimum Requirement is

u2022 Symbol MC70 WM5.0 imager scanner OEM Platform 5.1.3502.3900

u2022 Windows Mobile 5.0

Now here in client site, PDA is of Honeywell Adaptus Technology's "Dolphin 9500" series and Mobile OS is Pocket PC 2003. Is there any driver that work for this model and Mobile OS?

So is there different drivers for different Mobile Models and Mobile OS? I am confused.

Hi Gopal,

Yes, the note will explain the Device and OS configuration that it is tested with.

Those derivers are certified after testing to work only with that device and OS configuration.

So it is not gurrented to work with other OS and Device configuration as it is not tested and hence not supported.

As input from Barcode scan have to be taken in Wedge Mode, there is no need to do any developments in MI JSP Application. To enable barcode scan one can download barcode scan tools available from Handheld Vendor sites.
