Hi,

what is meant by business connector?How it is used in xi?

Business Connector is a standalone application that use jdk 1.3.08 for runtime.

There are two important things for R3 and BC live together:

- Hard Drives (Double growth for disk space)

- Ports for http services. (Usually R3 uses 8080 and BC uses 5555). Be carefull whith that point. They musn't have the same port for http services.

SAPu2019s Business Connector (SAP BC) is a business integration tool to allow SAP Customers the ability to communicate with other SAP customers or SAP marketplaces. The Business Connector allows integration with R/3 via open and non-proprietary technology. This middleware component uses the Internet as communication platform and XML/HTML as data format thus seamlessly integrating different IT architectures with R/3.

Purpose

The SAP Business Connector adapter (BC adapter) supports the B2B protocol of the SAP Business Connector, which is based on HTTP. The BC adapter enables you to replace a business connector with SAP Exchange Infrastructure or the PCK in scenarios where several SAP Business Connectors are used. This ensures guaranteed message delivery by SAP XI.

The Business Connector is a point to point solution that provides messaging and routing. Currently a number of organizations using the Business Connector utilize it to communicate between its partners using XML based messaging. This can be achieved using SAP XI as well, but SAP's strategy is to utilize XI as a central hub for messaging, routing, and communication between all SAP, non-SAP systems as well as partners. As SAP XI is a relatively new solution, organizations that are looking for communicating with their partners to exchange XML based documents or other point-to-point scenarios can still utilize SAP Business connector.

SAP BC and SAP XI are based on different technologies

􀂄SAP BC 4.6 and 4.7 based on webMethodsu2018Integration Server 4.6

􀂄SAP XI based on open standards (e. g. BPEL4WS for business processes)

Only parts of an SAP BC implementation can be migrated to an SAP XI implementation

􀂄XSLT mappings (offered since SAP BC 4.6)

Any custom programming done on the basis of SAP BC will likely not be reusable in the SAP Exchange Infrastructure context

Hi,

SAP has already been providing its Customers with Business Connector, a tool which enables the exchange of XML messages among different SAP modules via a Message Transformation and Routing procedure through a proprietary programming. However, with its EAI strategy, SAP wanted to be much more far-reaching and this led to the development of the eXchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) within the SAP NetWeaver platform.

SAP has announced plans to stop producing new versions of the SAP Business

Connector (a license-limited version of the webMethods Integration Server) and is

actively encouraging customers to use their Business Connector implementations to

serve as u201Cpilotsu201D for conversion to SAP XI (Exchange Infrastructure). With the lack of

future support for the Business Connector, customers will either have to convert to SAP

XI (or another integration vendor), or stay on a back-dated version of the webMethods

Integration Server used to power the Business Connector.

In 1999, SAP selected webMethods as their vendor-of-choice for integration to and from

SAP applications. SAP purchased the right to distribute, at no-charge, a license-limited

version of the webMethods Integration Server (known then as the webMethods B2B

Server), branded as the SAP Business Connector, to all SAP users. As a result,

thousands of SAP users have benefited from the full functionality of the webMethods

Integration Server to integrate into and out of their SAP systems. Under the terms of

their license agreement, their use of the Business Connector is limited to integration

scenarios encompassing SAP-to-SAP and/or SAP-to-other third-party applications only.

Many customers, based on their positive experience using the Business Connector,

upgraded to a u201Cfullu201D webMethods license.
