The MD04 sales order requirement date changes to current date when first date is in the past

Question, is it standard functionality for the sales order requirement date in MD04, if in the past, to roll with the current date? If it is standard functionality, why? If not, how / where would this setting be made in the system?

Sometimes we are unable to meet our customer request date. We keep our confirmed dates current through VA02/rescheduling. However, if the customer request date falls into the past, that date is lost to us in MD04 and we see the current date. Note, we don't use in-house delivery staging time.

- (Good) Create sales order line item with First Date in the past, MD04 reflects the date in the past.

- (Good) Existing order, with First Date in the past, MD04 reflects the date in the past.

- (BAD) Existing order , with First Date in the past, run new availability check, MAD gets updated to current date and current date is reflected in MD04.

None of our other demand elements with dates in the past behave this way (we do schedule line confirmations in STOs). Forecast consumption is rolled with the sales order. Planners can't see how late an order is.

Hello,

As per standard SAP MD04 shows the customer requested available date means MAD not the first date in MD04. Also if it is in paste system shows the past date.

The date displayed on MD04 is usually the Material Availability date of the schedule of the item of the Sales document. The date that the material is required to be available which should be same as appear on VBBE table. Loading date - Pick/pack processing time = Material Availability date.

Please check if you have fix date and quantity indicator set for sales document. Or may be with back order processing/reschedulig you are changing the customer requested material availability date to current date with replacement lead time base confirmation.

Best Regards,

R.Brahmankar

Normally, while rescheduling the sale order, if you don't want the system to reallocate the stock with different date, you can check the box "Fixed Date and Qty" in sale order. Did you try this option?

We don't use the fixed date and quantity indicator. When the First Date falls into the past, a second schedule line is generated with the new confirmation, but the first schedule line also seems to be regenerated with a new MAD date. For that reason, we do not see the original MAD date in VBBE or in MD04 but rather the current date. What would cause this (other than the fixed date and quantity)?

Hello,

When ATP check is triggered on a confirmed sales order, the dates on the requested schedule line (first schedule line) will be changed and the requested material availability date (MBDAT) is moved to today or a date in the future.

According to the software logic dates of the requested schedule line might be overwritten if in the past.

Only the requested delivery date (LFDAT) should be stable.
To change the standard software logic the modification coding of SAP Note 833272 can be used for the VA01/VA02 transactions.

Best Regards,

R.Brahmankar

It looks like our problem is what is described in Note 833272. Thank you for the direction. It is odd that the same logic would not apply to a create with a date in the past or that it is a modification to have the correct information pass to MD04. Is it possible to know how often this type of correction is done? The part about "backward" planning with the modification sounds concerning if we simply want the original date to be used for planning.

<DEL></DEL>

Hello,

As per standard SAP system logic dates of the requested schedule line might be overwritten if in the past. Only the requested delivery date (LFDAT) should be stable.
To change the standard SAP logic the modification coding of SAP Note 833272 can be used.

If you have NOT ticked in ECC customizing the V_TVAK_TER-TENUR flag which means carry out backwards scheduling only or "accept past dates", then any date in the past is rescheduled from today's date.

If you plan with original date in past, you will not be to produce or purchase in past. So planning point of view it make no sense. In change log of sales orders you can see which MBDAT in past moved to corrent date.

Best Regards,

R.Brahmankar

Thank you for the flag, I'll check if we are able to test -- would we still get the second or additional schedule lines in the sales order with feasible dates?
Right now, our planners have to use a custom report to figure out what is what since they are not given the right information. Since we fall behind on product for our constrained lines, this is especially bad. We want other schedule lines in the sales order for customer communication and physical shipment planning, but we need the original date for planning.

- We have dates in the past for Stock Transport Order schedule lines; we are allowed to put in forecast / maintain forecast in the past; we can have dependent requirements in the past. Why is only sales order demand not allowed to be in the past?

- Why does VA01 with a requested date in the past allowed to have a MAD in the past, only on VA02 does it change?

- If the MAD of the first schedule line changes to the current date, forecast consumption is rolled with the sales order which can also screw up planning.

- Planners can't see how late an order is vis a vis other demand / orders that can be in the past (both planning the same material and also in prioritizing on a line).

- The MRP exception messages make planners think they either have not slipped or have not slipped badly.
