SQL Error Log: Login Failed for User ''

I installed SQL server 2008 r2, and SAP B1 8.82 pl 09

The client on the server works fine.

When i try to login into SAP from workstation, the application hangs and crashes.

The SQL tracer gives following error:

Named pipes are enabled, sa user is being used in licence server.

Firewall is off, restarted server, sql, etc several times

Any ideas on how to solve this?

I checked this message as well: http://scn.sap.com/thread/1905985

but no real solution there.

542000 - Messages "Error:18456".."Login failed for user 'xx'" appear

Symptom

1. Connection failed.. SQL server error: 18456
2. Login failed for user 'XX'

Cause

1.Failure in attempt to connect to server due to a false login ID or a incorrect password.
2. A certain bug exists in SQL that corrupts the System Administrator
password.

Solution

To solve this problem please perform the following steps:

1. Ensure the System Administrator user was entered in the Login field (or any other user defined by the system administrator)

2. Ensure the correct password was entered in the Password field

3. In case the customer did not define a password for the SA user or for any other user defined by him, delete the content of the Password field.

In case a password was not defined for the SA user please perform the following procedure, which must be approved by the system administrator or by the general manager:

1. Go to the taskbar "Start -> Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server -> Enterprise Manager"

2. In your SQL Server click on the folder Security

3. click on Logins

4. Double click the SA user

5. In the pop up window use the General tab to delete the Password

6. Press "OK"

1. In the taskbar click "Start -> Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server -> Enterprise manager"

2. Right click the SQL server

3. Select Properties

4. In the pop up window click on the Security tab

5. In the Authentication field, make sure that both, "Windows and SQL" are checked instead of "Windows only".

I looked trough your note, but cannot fix it

full error:

2013-01-11 14:00:40.42 Logon	Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 58.
2013-01-11 14:00:40.42 Logon	Login failed for user ''. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: xx]

Any other idea's?

Hi Frederik,

You have two options:

1. Change SQL Server authentication type to allow both Windows and SQL authentication.

2. Give user Windows authentication to the server.

It had something to do with the server.

Server is a server 2012, and there is/was something wrong with the "bridge" part of the server.

Disabling solved the issue, and clients could log in.

please could you give us more details about bridge part of the server?

I have the same issue and i would to solve it because the SQL server log is full of these messages

hi Luca,

Im not fully aware any more of the correct solution, but in one of my mails i found following;

In my case I had several additional real & virtual NICs. (hamachi, VPN, wireless, Ethernet, vmware, virtualbox...)

I followed the advice to disable everything except one of them, in my case everything except the ethernet adapter and then I have restarted Windows (Win 7 x64).

Everything started to work smoothly. (the hamachi virtual NIC was automatically enabled on restart whithout my request)

and

In windows Server 2008 there is a option to choose whether IPv6 or IPv4, but we all use IPv4 normally, so we have to deactivate the IPv6 completely and it resolves the problem.
