Pick files from an external network without using FTP

Hi Folks,

We have a requirement where our ABAP programs need to pick files from a windows directory which resides in an external network.

When i say external, i mean the windows directory on which the files reside are on a different domain and network all together from the SAP system.

We had suggested FTP as a solution for this. But for some reason our client does not wish to do FTP.

Therefore from an ABAP standpoint i do not know of any other way to achieve this. They also do not have XI in their landscape.

Has anybody done something like this without FTP? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi if ur client have Unix ppl they can write a unix shell scripting which will map the files from External server to application server of SAP..

I don't think it's possible to do this without FTP unless you have some manual intervention.

How does the client expect to do this without FTP? it is a VERY standard way to move data around.

We utilize these tools - XI, EDI and Web Methods - but, I would guess that in the background somewhere, they are using some sort of FTP.

suggest to them that they need to build a Web Service which you can consume - maybe that would change their mind about allowing FTP.

Well, Robert I dont know what to say :).

As an ABAP er i cannot think of anything but FTP. But apparently we need to look for more ways.
