do we always need a distribution model when using a ALE?

i am curious to know do we always need a distribution model to be created in the system to send and recieve data using ALE technology?

I am not clear as to when should i create a distribution model in SALE transaction?

Do i need the distribution model to be created only when i am exchanging MASTER DATA or we need a distribution model always and it does not matter if we are exchanging MASTER DATA or TRANSACTION DATA?

please give me a scenario when i dont need a Distribution model.

Hi,

Its always necessary to create a distribution model when you want to distribute master data, but for transaction data is it not necessary.

Usually I create Distribution Model for transaction data when I'm sending data through Custom Idocs. This way I can get the receivers maintained for the IDocs dynamically using the function module ALE_MODEL_INFO_GET by passing the message type.

Hi,

Accordinmg to me in distribution model we define message flow between logical systems. The relationships between logical systems, message types, BAPIs, and filters are defined in the distribution model. Applications and the ALE layer user the distribution model to determine receivers and to control the data distribution.
